This is accomplished by looking at a vast array of theories contained in the fields of education, economics, management, and both historical and present day areas of moral philosophy.
Both of the author’s draw upon their years of experience to illustrate how a key understanding of ethical principles can greatly improve the management styles and protocols within an educational setting. To do this, four main points are espoused. The first is to educate the school administrator by providing various case studies that illustrate the concepts relevant to ethical issues that are most often encountered by school administrators. Another key feature of the book is to encourage thinking creatively and outside of the box in regard to how individuals can be become morally informed, and then to take that knowledge to develop effective leadership strategies that can attain organizational buy-in and lead to a shared vision amongst all personnel. Another primary purpose of the book is to reveal several different of theories related to the field of ethics, and then to interweave these together to form a basis for decision making and better cultural awareness within various school districts. Finally, the book serves as a resource to school administrators by incorporating a large range of learning aids, among these included numerous figures that serve to clarify and critique different ideas (Wagner & Simpson, 2009).
This book was co-authored by Paul Wagner from the University of Houston, and Douglas Simpson from Texas Christian University. Dr. Wagner is the current director of the Project in Professional Ethics at the University of Houston’s Clear Lake Campus. I also learned that both authors, Provenzo and Kincheloe acknowledged that media became shaping forces that mold children’s cognitive and reactive skills and behavior.
