pose of helping teachers learn to better deal with areas of student discipline, to integrate certain moral and social values based education into the classroom curriculum, and to contribute to children being able to develop their own moral self. This book also moves beyond basic concepts relative to moral development and begins a scholarly discusses related to various controversial issues in the field of education and society today. Among these are include the relationship between morality and religious rules, in addition to the role that cultural variation plays in the development of moral values.
Through this discussion, the author presents a great deal of findings uncovered through research and theory, avoiding any type of focus on individual ideology. Larry Nucci has a Ph.D. in Psychology and is currently an adjunct professor at the University of California, Santa Cruz. His research focus has long been on better understanding how children develop both socially and morally through education. One of his many areas of interest, in particular, rests in working to determine how children make judgments about issues that they consider to be personal issues and warranting of a certain level of privacy and discretion.
The research he has conducted in this area has primarily been conduct in diverse cultures, with a particular focus on Latin American and the Asian continent. In more recent times, he has narrowed his research focus somewhat to cover the assessment of moral and social reasoning as it related to the integration of a more comprehensive curriculum of moral education, in particular in relation to how teachers are prepared to enter the profession. In the past, Dr. Nucci has been a recipient of a Fulbright Fellowship.
In addition to this accomplishment, he has been given grants from multiple foundations, among them the S.D. Bechtel Jr. Foundation, the Fetzer Foundation, the Templeton Foundation, and the Character Education Partnership. In addition to
