A student who scores an A or A minus is a student who is doing well. A student who scores C is an average performer. A student with an E is a failure. The limitation of the grading system is that they only tell what a student can do theoretically in class and does not show what the student can do past the class or practice.

The guidelines for developing multiple grading and reporting systems: Communication is the main objective for grading and reporting. The grades should be able to communicate to the parents, teachers, and the public about the performance of the students. The methods of reporting and grading must offer understandable and accurate descriptions of the learning process. The systems must also offer learning and teaching.

Considerations in conducting parent-teacher conferences: The parents ought to talk to their children before the conference begins. They must know if the child has a favorite subject. They must also ask their children if they would prefer to discuss any topic with the teacher. It is always advisable to discuss before the conference begins. The parents should talk with the teachers before the conference begins. The pre-meeting with the teachers helps the parents in sharing information about their child’s personality, interests, and hobbies. The parents must also set priorities by setting questions that are important to them. The parents must also manage their minds while they head to school. The parents must remind themselves that the trip is for the benefit of their child. They must also prepare for a friendly opening.

Listening is important because it helps the parents to get information about their child, the school, and the teachers. Sometimes the teacher may have a problem with the child, but it is always advisable for the parent not to take things personally. The parents are the ones who know the child more than any other person, therefore, they should be able to share information about their child with the teachers. The parents must have a follow-up conference to know the steps that they will take together with the teachers in improving the child’s performance. Finally, the parents must debrief their children regarding anything that will be discussed in the conference.

Mean: This is the average of a set of numbers. The mean of a series of numbers is computed by summing the series of numbers and then diving the sum by the number of units in the series.
Median: The median is the middle number that is found by arranging the series of numbers from the smallest to the largest unit.
Mode: The mode is the most common number in the series of numbers or sets of data.

Standard deviation: This measures the level of deviation of data in the series from the mean. It indicates how the numbers have spread out from each other. To compute the standard deviation, one must first compute the mean. The second is to find the difference between the mean from each of the sets of data. Each difference is then squared and then summed. Finally, compute the mean of the set. The means of this set is called the variance. Therefore, the variance is the square of the standard deviation.
Percentile Ranking: This is the proportion of values in a distribution that a particular score is equal to or greater than. For instance, if a student takes a test and scores 96 percent and the score is equal to or greater than 90 percent of the students who took the test, then the student's percentile ranking is 90. ...Download file to see next pages Read More
