Pirius in ‘A Data-Driven Approach to SEM Development at a Two-Year College.’ In this 2014 peer reviewed journal, Landon reports that the right SEM plan should be procedurally executed into five distinct stages. This is the only way through which the institution can be able to accomplish both its long and short term goals. Such duties should be executed by the faculty in order to ensure there are a right recruitment, persistence and retention of the students who are enrolled to study within the institution.

In this article, Landon carried out studies at the prestigious North Hennepin Community College (NHCC), Minnesota. He found out that this two-year college always serves a diverse class of learners faced with several challenges. As a public institution, NHCC has to make feasible SEM plans so as to cope up with the high number of students who are in a dire demand of higher education amidst reduced government capitalization and exceedingly higher expectations on student success from the general society (Green, T., 2013). Despite currently registering an annual enrolment rate of 10,000 students, NHCC has had to face lots of challenges in the past.

It has been experiencing fluctuating student enrolment. This had made it a bit difficult to have a long-term plan and launch feasible initiatives to promote student success. However, this had been happening despite NHCC, as a public institution, facing lots of pressure from the general public regarding the success of its learners. However, as Landon expresses, all this changed immediately the faculty began implementing the SEM plan to help in dealing with the issues of student recruitment, retention and growth.
