Despite the availability, of gifts to various sport items; donations still stands as they attend to the budgetary spending. The expenditure of the amount attached to the budgetary spending proves adequate when properly utilised by the athletic department and managers. It proves paramount to account for the spending of the amount donated so as to ensure the donors that the organisation is putting their resources into proper use. Conversely, the Michigan State University have devised their funding strategy from a different point of view, where they openly disclose their needs and costs to their supporters. Few weeks ago, the men’s track and the field coach released their budget through their athlete website detailing the items needs and the program attached (Humphrey, & Humphrey, 112). Furthermore, the team ensured that the individual needs were accompanied by their related costs; this gave supporters an overview of the expectations of the team. The Michigan State University track and field schedule prove goal oriented and transparent. This strategy proves an asset to many schools when creating awareness for their needs. Another crucial consideration is that the funds raised must attend to the needs specified if the team wants to gain the trusted the donors (Humphrey, & Humphrey, 146). Importance of running a successful athletic department A successful athletic department ensures that the donor will always yearn to help the team achieve higher levels of success. The period 1800/ 1900 marked a momentous date in the calendars’ of college heads, law makers, alumnae, faculty, athletic directors, as the intercollegiate athletics along the institutions of higher learning was signed; they were well aware of the relationship between the success of their athletic schedules through the cooperation of donors. The reasons as to why vast individuals assume the positive influence attached to college sports and donors comes from the fact that; a well performing team serves as a source of revenue to colleges and universities in question. College sports are normally termed as a million dollar industry; prompted by their exposure to the public (Humphrey, & Humphrey, 156). The Michigan State University involves its activities in the media through; print media, the Internet, and through the television. There appears a belief that; successful college sports are a ticket to accessing more revenue for colleges and universities involved. As the director of the Central Michigan University, the fact still lingers in the mind and prompts the activities that ensure success to the athletic team. Although, the illusion is true to some extents; the idea must never be over emphasised. The emphasis would mean that successful organisations appear to appeal to philanthropists; the situation can be faulty (Humphrey, & Humphrey, 187). Importance of fundraising an athletic department A successful athletic department ensures continuity of the team activities regardless of the financial situation of the organisation. The funds in the accounts specified from donors helps the organisation work out situations as they come. The funds must always be used to the best interest of the players. The funds empower the team to hire the best couches to ensure the success of the team. This process upgrades the athletics schedule while still ensuring that the needs of the players’ remains attended. There proves a continuous need to improve the athletics practice; this can be facilitated by the use of funds. The team with a fundraising department also achieves the capability of training and releasing the best student players, which can be accumulated in the same team; as it ensures success of the athlete organisation. The athletics also requires computer labs to facilitate their research in the field. The measures they must undertake to ensure their success to the Michigan State University team appear relevant (Humphrey, & Humphrey, 212). Hiring the bests coach proves a challenge as the best coaches also requires a motivating salary. The coach also requires the team members to have the best equipments that will facilitate their success in the athletics competition and fund. The Michigan State University team plans to hire the best coaches to facilitate the success of their players. The best coaches are expensive to acquire, but the best asset the team can access. The best coaches’ ends up producing the best students who will attract more funds for the team to enable the team achieve success. The Michigan State University team needs to upgrade athletic facilities to ensure that the seats in the stadium are in superior condition. The computer laboratories for tutors and athletes require renovation to ensure that the school keeps up with the emerging trends in the world of sports. The school aim at attracting and hiring personal, impactful, outgoing and experienced to help the organisation grow (Humphrey, & Humphrey, 167). Attracting donors to fund the athletic team Available statistics proves success attained on football teams interprets from wealth contributed to the athletic department; the reverse also holds. The record of the financial period march 2010 to march 2011 confirms that the Michigan State University utilises its financial expenditures wisely. The revenue were $68, 819, 806; the team used $25,566, 520in its expenses that were later disclosed on the team’s website and their profits were ranging close to $43, 253, 286. This implies to the donors that the team members are responsible and that they can account for the use of the funds (Humphrey, & Humphrey, 117). The Michigan State University team can also employ the use of gifts to attract the capacity the stadium can hold also proves as an asset. The fans must purchase licenses in accompaniment to the season’s tickets to the football, basketball and men’s basketball. The annual donations convenience the access of tickets to the customers; tickets release appears prompted. Despite the fact that, donors holds up most university and colleges success, Central Michigan University team, like Texas A & M, can reduce overreliance on the donation and gifts by selling tickets, licensing and donation (Humphrey, & Humphrey, 234). The students performance; the students in Michigan State University support the funding program as they always aspire to top universities in the world market. The students also aim to keep their relationships with the Spartan family consisting of alumni, faculty, the parents, and friends of the university. The Michigan State University fund system supports their sponsors; reminding them of renewal of the ties they have with the Michigan State University concerning gifts allocations yearly (Humphrey, & Humphrey, 183). The funding program assures the sponsors that the gift released to the Michigan State University goes a long way in motivating the students in their studies and also their lives, but also helps protect the quality of education throughout the Spartan generations. The gifts rejuvenate the strength of the Michigan State University to attend to students, sustain the faculty and employees through scholarships, teaching novelty and advancing technology in use (Humphrey, & Humphrey, 287). The ultimate goal of the Michigan state University; to achieve the number one alumni participation rate amongst the top ten proves positive with increased participation of the donors. The involvement of the Michigan State University with the alumni implies that, the university will appear in the nation ranking. Through the nation ranking, the university assurance concerning the genre of students targeted rises resulting into drawing the best and brightest students. The implication of the act proves that the students improve on the value all the quality of education attained from the Michigan State University. The donors are assured that their donation directly goes to the university or the department that the sponsor favours, the Michigan State University appreciates the devotion to the university its students and goals (Humphrey, & Humphrey, 115). The idea of devising an extra method of acquiring funds and cut down the use of donors proves paramount. The presidents of athletic teams can attest to the difficulties encountered in convincing individuals of the transparency of creating a team budget. The only revenue that management can account to as fixed is the revenue of television. The revenues returns from gate receipts, licensing returns, bowl or NCCA tournament income; are highly variable. The only time that the ticketing service can be seen to generate a significant amount of revenue comes in; when the time where a vast number of fans come in to view the game. The most unstable source of revenue seems to be private giving and licensing. This finding imply that budgeting for unstable revenues can cause the company significant loss. Such actions prompt the team to bankrupt situations (Humphrey, & Humphrey, 277). Work Cited Humphrey, James H, and James H. Humphrey. Contemporary Athletics Compendium: Volume 3.
