Artifact: A reading lesson plan which enhances critical thinking processes.Attached:Student_Biography ofWalterDeanMyers_Principle4Character Education: This lesson plan will inculcate the trait of attentiveness in the students.By paying attention to the responses of other students about the homework assignment each student will broaden his/her schema about Walter Dean Myers. The students will then listen carefully as the teacher reads the biography.

They will take notes, highlight or annotate the respective text in order to prepare the draft of the information of interest about Walter Dean Myers. At the end of the class the student who was the most attentive would get appreciation from the teacher, reinforcing the value and importance of being attentive in order to be successful.Reflection: I planned this lesson according to Piaget’s Cognitive Theory aimed at the age group of 12-15 year olds in the concrete operational and/or formal operational stage.

The students were given an assignment related to the author as homework enabling each individual to form a schema according to his/her perception. In class the repetition of the schema of all students one by one enabled each to apply the processes of assimilation/accommodation/equiliberation to improve upon the individual schema, resulting in a collective class schema about Walter Dean Myers. At this point each student was asked about his/her personal point of interest in the author, eliciting interesting responses from students.

The biography was read aloud to them and they were asked to prepare drafts using their points of interest. This resulted in the improvement of the collective class schema as well as in the attentiveness of the students.Principle #4: The teacher understands and uses a variety of instructional strategies to encourage students’ development of critical thinking, problem solving and performance skills
