Application at the Texas State University This essay is being written to provide additional information about me, which hopefully may positively impact my application at the Texas State University. I would like to share my experience about an opportunity which I was faced during my sophomore year. During my sophomore year, our English teacher gave an assignment to research on a particular charity. This unforgettable experience has given me a new learning, that is, the importance of charitable institutions.

Although I have heard of these foundations before, its relevance does not really sink in on me. However, after doing this project I became more conscious of its importance in society. These foundations have to power to improve lives of individuals, communities and the society as a whole. I realized that it is not enough that we accumulate wealth while other people are dying of hunger. Each one has a responsibility to help those in need. I was fortunate enough to start a chain reaction in the school that made others move into the action of helping.

The project encouraged voluntarism and helped build solidarity in the school, moving towards one common goal of alleviating the lives of the poor. Helping charitable institutions is a way of spreading love and kindness to people who are not only in need of material things, but rather, longing for affection from other people. All over the world, poverty is a serious problem; thus, there is a need for each one of us to reach out and do our part in ameliorating the lives of the poor. Given our project in English, I chose the Ronald McDonald House Charities.

I thought to myself, now is my chance to help in the advancement of the lives of the less fortunate. While most of my classmates made PowerPoint presentations, I used my creativeness to make an entertaining hip hop music video. I gathered all the information I needed, wrote the music and lyrics of the song and recorded it. My teacher was very much impressed with what I did that she showed the video to the other English classes. Because of the wide acclaim of the video in school, my teacher and I decided to collect pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House Charities.

In a school pep rally, my teacher asked me to perform my song to help promote the pop tab collection. The response was overwhelming because we got the support not only of the students and teachers but the parents and church members as well. After only two months of the project, we were able to fill up four pickle jars with pop tabs. The Ronald McDonald House Charities was so grateful for what we did. This experience has made me a better person. It is not so much the recognition that I gained from the project but rather it was the feeling that I was able to help and even provided a venue for other people to also share their blessings to the less fortunate.

The experience not only affected me but also the whole school and their families. I was able to create awareness among the other students who may know of the charitable foundation but did not really know how to help. I realized that sharing my talents and blessings with the underprivileged people is something that goes beyond just the mere act of giving. It gave me a sense of fulfillment. It was very satisfying knowing that in my own little way, I was able to make a difference.
