This week, we’ve been studying shapes and the color purple. I decided to write about the day that my 4 year old went on a nature walk to look for shapes, and then went on a ‘magazine walk’ to make shape posters. During morning recess, the children looked for shapes outside. When we got back inside, we discussed the shapes that we saw. Then, during art, the children looked through magazines and cut out shapes that were rectangles, circles, or triangles. The children then sorted the shapes onto the rectangle, triangle, or circle poster and we glued the shapes on.
I chose this activity to write about because it shows standard 4c: Using a broad repertoire of developmentally appropriate teaching/learning approaches. When we went on the nature walk looking for shapes, the children’s curiosity about their environment was encouraged. At the same time, I was able to get an idea of which students knew their basic shapes. When the children made the shape posters, they were able to talk with each other about which shapes went into what category. We were also able to connect the color of the week into the lesson when we reviewed the posters and I asked the children if they could find purple rectangles, triangles, or circles.
I learned that most of my children can identify their basic shapes. If I did the activity again though, I would go over how to identify the shapes before I did the nature walk. I would also do more to try to integrate the color purple into the lesson. Read More

Proposition 13

... Proposition 13 Historical Perspective In 1978 California passed Proposition 13 with nearly 2/3 of the voters electing to change the way California calculates and collects property tax. Escalating property tax in California had become a sore point with the voters, and Prop 13 stabilized tax rates and put a limit of a 2% increase on yearly reevaluation. Proposition 13 also mandated that a two-thirds majority of the legislature would be needed to raise local tax rates and also required a 2/3 vote of the people to approve any rate hikes. The state of California immediately lost 57% of its property tax revenue amounting to $6 billion dollars (Fox). Proposition 13 was the result of a taxpayer revolt against escalating and uncertain tax rates...

...Apollo 13: A Critical Review (Fill in with your information etc Apollo 13: A Critical Review There are many different forms of organizational theories and concepts which can be observed in film. There are specific motivational and managerial theories which can be applied here as well. The 'systems approach' to the management of projects was one that hailed directly from the application of scientific methods to management. In the movie Apollo 13, there are significant examples of all of these, and in order to come to a clearer and more knowledgeable understanding on these, the following questions must be addressed: 1. What is strategic management 2. What is project management 3. What are some motivational and managerial theories that apply...

Case 13-4 and 13-5

...RUNNING HEAD: SFAS No. 13 SFAS No. 13 in APA Style Case 13-4 Application of SFAS No. 13 What is the theoretical basis for the accounting standard that requires certain long-term leases to be capitalized by the lessee? The requirement to capitalize long-term leases is based on the concept of substance over form. This means that in its legal form (as supported by a lease contract), a transaction may be deemed a lease. However, in substance (and therefore in the accounting point of view), the lessee is actually purchasing the leased asset from the lessor because the risks and rewards of using the leased asset are actually transferred by the lessor to the lessee. 2. How should Lani account for this lease at its inception and determine...

...Charles Darwin gave the theory of natural selection which highlighted the fact that evolutionary modifications are responsible for the persistence ofvariation in each generation. Some organisms have certain variations which provide them survival boost, enabling them to have better opportunities to survive, mate and provide larger number of offspring. ... Religion and Discrimination against Women According to this article, the explains the roles and position of women in context of different religions. As a matter of fact, there is no evidence to likely suggest whether the author is overly optimistic about the status of women in religion or not. She simply explains in detail how different religions treat and value their women according to what they believe in. (Levine paragraph1). I agree with her claims. Religion is not the problem but some people who try to justify their actions and use religion as means to achieve their selfish goals which have nothing to do with it. This results to; blaming religion rather than learning about it, not knowing our own religious traditions... Religion and...
