Extract of sample "Experience of Facing or Witnessing Discrimination"

Discrimination is an act of making difference, in treatment, on a basis other than individual merit. Most of the people who travel, illegally, to America face unusual discrimination by society or authorities. While the authorities, instructed to deal with the guiltless people in a kind manner, often become extra rude in such situations. The coast Guard department is one such department which have to deal directly with illegal immigrants. Here, I will describe one of them. Originally, I am a Hispanic and I meet with a lot of people of my race.

I happened to meet two boys who were of about my age. They were Hispanic too. The act of illegally crossing the U. S. border caused them to face swear moral and judicial punishment from society. Although, both of them were subjected to legal punishment, yet I felt a bit of discriminating behavior of the society towards them. Actually, as I noticed that they were not only subjected to judicial castigation but also to a discriminating behavior from the people in their surroundings. This incident led me to think about the issue deeply.

I tried to recognize the factors involved in the act of discrimination. The conclusions told me that the basic factor in the treatment of illegally migrated groups is the treatment of the department directly dealing with such people. I, therefore, concluded that, if I am to abolish discrimination from society by playing my part, being a coast guard will provide me the best opportunity to do so. Now, I am ambitious to join the coast guard department, so that I may be able to deal with illegally migrated people in a new way.

I know that I may not be able to bring a revolution in the department, yet I am energetic to play my part in abolishing discrimination from society. This is the reason, why I joined the coast guard academy.
