Running head: WRITTEN RESPONSES TO SPEECH Written Responses to Speech of the of the the assignment is due Course of student The topic of discussion concerns the deteriorating quality of education in the United States. There are major concerns facing education system and the stakeholders must come up with ways to curb them as explained by Smith (2006). If the schools are to meet the standards and needs of the contemporary world they must be reconstructed in radical and fundamental approaches.

Public schools are an important component of a country’s strength as they equip members of society with knowledge enabling them to become productive. The discussion looks at some of the issues facing the education system and cites some solutions that can improve the quality of education. The problems facing education range from overpopulation in classrooms, minimal supply of text books, poor physical conditions of schools to increased teacher attrition rate. The other major problem facing the education system is lack of parental involvement in their children’s education that has led to poor performance.

The suggested solutions to the problems involve combined efforts from the major players in the education system (Smith, 2006). There should be an introductory foundation class to prepare beginning teachers to the hard task. There should be more parental involvement as the first step of solving these problems. This improves the overall performance of the students as stipulated by Smith (2006). The government should set aside funds to expand schools, hire more qualified teachers, improve the structure of schools to offer better facilities for the students and buy text books.

The structure of the speech simply outlines the way the ideas are organized clearly and logically as suggested by Turabian (2007). A speech is divided into three major parts which are the introduction, the body and the conclusion. The first step should be giving the suitable title that is short, catchy and creative. The introduction gives the topic of the speech, states main points of the topic and supports the topic. The introduction should insight curiosity and attention of the reader. The body of the speech contains the ideas and the main topic in the discussion, substantiates the argument with examples and statistics and transitions the reader to the next point.

The last part is the conclusion which wraps up the discussion, contains the solutions to the problem and summarizes the main points in the speech. Writing this paper gave me enough time to prepare by researching on it and organizing the ideas in a logical and clear manner. Writing also provides formality for the current topic of study. The topic about the education system in the United States is quite crucial and should be accorded the formality it deserves. Writing gives the reader the opportunity to reflect on complex statements and they can follow the flow of the topic by the way the speech is structured as argued by Turabian (2007).

It was a comfortable decision since it did not require preparation to present for an audience; there was enough time to research on the topic and give conclusive information. Writing helped me to organize my ideas in a logical manner making it easy for the reader to follow. References Smith, R. W. (2006).
