Focus and dedication are the two key attributes that make accomplishing any worthy goal possible. If the goal is a worthy one, there will surely be hurdles to leap and decisions to make at every fork in the road. Focusing on the goal and dedicating one’s decisions to the accomplishment of the goal makes overcoming obstacles less trying. For the past several years, my goal has been to become a part of the health sciences Master’s program at George Washington University. Dedication and focus on this goal has guided my decisions and efforts, resulting in experiences that I feel have prepared me to enter this program.
My academic efforts have been shaped by the fact that I know the program at GWU is extremely competitive. My studies at Long Island University have resulted in a 3.67 GPA and straight A’s in all of my science classes. The demanding curriculum at Long Island University and the knowledge gained from my science classes has laid a strong academic foundation for future study in GWU’s graduate health sciences program.
I have always volunteered in my community, and since I have set the goal of being accepted to GWU, I have been volunteering in ways that will help me to develop skills necessary to succeed in a PA program. I work with at-risk youth in the Washington DC area and want to use my PA skills to serve this community. In addition to this community service, I have just completed a 200 hour volunteer program at USC+LAC specially designed for aspiring PA’s. As a part of these volunteer hours, I worked in the largest trauma center in the country assisting and getting to know the PA’s there as professionals and individuals. Their efforts on behalf of their patients have further inspired me to want to be a PA.
My choice of current profession is also preparing me for PA school. I currently work as a medical assistant in a West End neighborhood of Washington DC. As a part of my daily work, I assist in the medical care for a population with a high rate of HIV. I have learned so much by working with these patients. In addition to the typical workload of a medical assistant, I also act as the head counselor in the medical weight loss clinic. I work alongside the physicians to coordinate the client’s medical histories with their weight loss goals.
For the past several years, my goal has been to be accepted to GWU to become a PA. Upon completion of my program at GWU, I plan to stay in the DC area and work in a clinic or family practice serving a low-income community. This is where my heart is and this is where my passion for serving others was born. As a PA, I know I will do great things for my community. Read More

...The Indispensability of George Washington Was George Washington Indispensable or was he just a person who happened to be in the right place and theright time and had the greatness thrust upon him The New York Times Obituary stated that James T Flexner showed George Washington as a normal man, in exact words ''brought the hero down from Olympus, if not to eye level, at least to where we can see him whole and see him plain.''1. One may agree or disagree with that, but is it not true for most great people, that they were thrust in extra ordinary circumstances. It also is possibly true that the events of the time were moving forward in such a way, that the results would have happened as they did. Whether Gandhi was there or not, India would...

He has seen the problem of plagiarism from a different angle in his “opinion” article in Chronicle of Higher Education, “Student Plagiarism as an Institutional and Social Issue”. He has raised the issue of “Research Assistance” provided by advertisers, “Thousand of papers in stock, available for any course”, pointing to the problem of not only graded students papers going out of the office for resurfacing in future but the immoral practice of taking outside sources help to complete the assignments, which, according to the writer, needs to be fixed. Why Did George W. Bush Win the 2004 Presidential Election

Born into a family of power and privilege, George W. Bush was a mediocre student, compiled a disgraceful military record, consistently failed in his occupational ventures and suddenly transformed from a drunken, cocaine user to a conservative religious zealot. During his first term, the U.S. national budget went from a surplus to the highest debt in history, millions of jobs were lost, the country experienced a foreign attack, the country’s ideological divide grew wider and America’s allies were alienated (Cervera, 2004). How could this have happened, what mechanisms were in place for Bush to be rehired for a job he proved he could not do? A job that is responsible for the world’s largest economy and military. Ac...

The time was 7:09am and the wall clock’s second hand ticked fastidiously as if racing with the “tippy-tap” sound of the receptionist’s keyboard as she typed away on her computer...

This has greatly contributed to controlling public smoking. The smoking prevalence decreased to 18.9% up from 24.4% in adults with the age of 18-24 from the year 2005 to the year 2011, in accordance with a research Centre (CDC).
