Racial notions and principles provided mechanisms on which the American society was segregated and differentiated in terms of skin complexity and other racial features (Carter 28). Slavery is one of the most organized and structured form of racism that happened in the American society. Racism was mainly directed towards the minority groups in the US and other parts of America. These minority groups included the African-Americans, the Native Americans, Asian Americans and the Latin Americans. Those on the top of practicing racisms and who enjoyed privileges at the expense of the minority groups were the European or the Anglo Americans.

The segregation of the American society along racial lines presented various social, political and economic predicaments to each minority group. Among the specific privileges that were enjoyed by the Anglo Americans and were limited to the minority groups included the rights to vote, rights to education, citizenship, land and property acquisition, and justified criminal procedures (Carter 45). The European Americans continued to enjoy these privileges until the social dynamic forces were initiated by concerned activists.

These activists participated in the campaigns aimed at re-structuring the relevant social, political and economic systems to respond to the grievances of the minority groups. These activists pushed for the intervention of the American government in addressing the issue of inequality within the American society. Since the initiation of the campaigns in the early 1950’s until the late 1960’s, the American administrative systems has continued its efforts to intervene on the effects of racism and create equality within the society (Carter 28).

Based on the efforts applied by the government in addressing this issue, various analytical processes have been carried out to justify that government intervention was necessary to iron out racial discrimination. The basis of this evaluation should be centered on the effects or the impacts of racial discrimination. The limited access to privileges outlined earlier created pronounced inequality in the social, economical and the political platforms of the society. The social inequality created by segregation includes judicial systems and procedures (Fredrickson 33).

Before racism campaigns were initiated, the judicial principles of the American society were structured to favor the Anglo Americans. In the wake of freedom campaigns, government had to intervene through its legislative and judicial branches to address this social issue. In terms of economic implications, the government had to restructure laws relating to acquisition and ownership of property by the minority groups. Moreover, the minorities had to be awarded equal education opportunities to their Anglo counterparts.

Political representation through the application of voting rights would address the political grievances of the sidelined races. All these practices required government intervention to accomplish the establishment of an equal society (Fredrickson 41). It is undeniable that despite the numerous equality programs which have already been implemented to date, the America’s present is still connected to its past.
