1. of Pennsylvania is one of the most prominent s and it is considered to be a place of excellence in imparting value-focused education to the students. The prestigious School of Dental Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania is dedicated to offer valuable education to students who are willing to attain progression and competence for the actualization of oral health in society. The education imparted at the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Dentistry is embedded in a comprehensive study about dentistry in a well-arranged way in order to develop the skills of the students and mould them to be creative and also to be able to think critically. I also respect the University of Pennsylvania’s philosophy in education which is concerned with the preparation of dental students in many roles of dental practitioners such as; “scientist, clinician, artist, teacher, engineer, and business manager.” I believe this philosophy will allow me to receive an all encompassing education in dentistry which will provide me with the background needed to succeed in dentistry and achieve my goals as a health professional. The wide network of the institution reflects its commitment to reach and provide a quality health care to the surrounding community at large as well as provide an opportunity to the students to be compassionate with the patients, develop leadership skills and professionalism while at the same time building up creativity and love in a just way. It serves as a center for training students to become outstanding dentists who can influence the community with goodwill, passion and commitment. The institution also embraces and encourages an environment of discovery and promotes a global view of dentistry which is increasingly important for dental practitioners. Since the 21st century, there have been various technical developments in every field and the dentistry field has also benefitted from this advancement in technology. The students at this institution are given the opportunity of doing research and the results of various researches have helped America to be a force to reckon with in giving good oral health to its citizens. This institution has an all-round focus for the dentistry students and patients and I wish to have the opportunity to prove my academic prowess at this institution and make a contribution to the profession of Dental medicine through research community. 2. During my childhood, I never thought that I would pursue a career in dentistry because of the unreasonable fear of the unknown regarding this profession. As years passed, I came to know more about dentistry from my extensive reading and pleasant experiences with many dentists which aroused my curiosity to know more about it. My volunteer exertion and researches helped me to decide to delve into the field of dentistry. Even though dentistry in the United States is more advanced, there is sheer negligence on the part of the public. People are not aware of how important their oral health is and they only come to meet a dentist when they feel severe pain in their teeth. Understanding the fact that the decay of a tooth will precipitate into other diseases, I took a strong decision to pursue my profession in dentistry since it needs commitment and dedication toward the patients. Graduate Endodontics Clinic at the University Of Washington School Of Dentistry is the institution where I have been working for one and a half years and spent around five to seven hours per week. I was entrusted there to develop X-ray films and to set up trays for treatment. I also had the opportunity to observe doctors performing root canal treatments and various Endodontic procedures. Dental procedures and the use of instruments have not been the only aspects of dentistry that I learned there. The doctors I have been working with are graduate dental students, therefore, I was able to observe how much time and effort they have invested to succeed there. The doctors always shared with me that their hard work has always paid off at the end when the patients would thank them and also tell them how their efforts would have made their lives easier. Because of eagerness to explore the various sides of dentistry, I have been visiting Dental Fear Research Clinic at the University of Washington for almost two years. The three to five hour periods per week I spent there made me to learn how to deal effectively with the fear and apprehension of the patients. I was eagerly observing the methods used by the doctors and psychologists to relieve fear from the patients. Besides volunteering in dental clinics, I also had the opportunity to learn many laboratory techniques from my prior experiences in different laboratories. I have worked in a biochemistry laboratory since my freshman year. The focus of our research has been to study the metabolic mechanisms of Sacchromyces cerevisiae (Yeast species), especially the interaction between BMH and ADR1 proteins which are known to be involved in transcription regulation of the carbohydrate utilization in yeast. The focus of our research has been to identify the specific binding site of BMH to ADR1 and how this affects the glucose repressible pathway in yeast metabolism. This research is not only restricted to yeast species, therefore, this would allow us to apply our knowledge further into the metabolism of more complex organisms such as the humans. I have also participated in a Periodontics research laboratory for eight months. Our research studied different combinations and concentrations of a chemical called doxycyclin and BMP that are known to help periodontal ligament cells to form bones. They were tested to find out whether a certain combination of these two chemicals would produce synergic effects and amplify the osteogenic ability of periodontal ligament cells. Undoubtedly, I say that all these volunteer and research exposures prior to my dental study would certainly help me pursue my studies in a better way and it would help me become a good dentist as well as researcher in the future. I believe that the University of Pennsylvania is one of the most prestigious institutions and it is considered to be a place of excellence in imparting value-focused education to the students. Dental education program at this University is dedicated to give students the opportunity to become competent health professionals who can positively contribute to the welfare of the citizens. The education imparted at this institution is carefully designed in a fashion that is meant to develop the skills of the students and make them think critically. The early and extensive “service learning in a variety of community” reflects its tremendous effort to reach and provide a quality health care to the surrounding community. The institution serves as a center for training students to become exceptional dentists who can influence the community with goodwill, passion and commitment. Over and above, it is my strong conviction that I have the qualities of becoming a student in dentistry at your institution which has an all-round focus on the students and patients. I also wish to have the opportunity to prove my academic excellence and make a contribution to the profession of Dental medicine within an institution that demands quality and consistency. Read More
