 Goodwill, as Aristotle would understand it, must seek to exercise some control over such things -- to be careful of life and health, money, etc., but always in subordination to the overall goal, the overall goal being the achievement of happiness.However, today's politicians or governments do not think it is their duty to keep looking after the welfare of the subjects; politicians are not expected to be especially good themselves, or to have moral purposes; as political slogans 'the good life' or 'the quality of life' refer to the physical conditions of life.
