Arabization of Language Policy - Assignment Example

Language policy and planning process and procedure in the Arab world have been subject to an ever-increasing Arabization process that has, invariably, been characterized by a linguistic and cultural transformation. This proposal is intended to look at this Arabization process that has pervaded the strategic policy and planning environment in the Arab world with greater emphasis on linguistic and cultural dimensions. Language policy and planning process and procedure in the Arab world have been subject to an ever-increasing Arabization process that has, invariably, been characterized by a linguistic and cultural transformation.

This proposal is intended to look at this Arabization process that has pervaded the strategic policy and planning environment in the Arab world with greater emphasis on linguistic and cultural dimensions. Introduction Primacy and immediacy of Arabization have essentially been the determining characteristics of a particularly strong transformation process of Arabic Language policy and planning in the Arab world.  The d’être behind the very lingua-cultural interaction process and its monolithic transformation in the Middle East are quite amenable to both purely linguistic and culture-centric semantic interpretation (Paulston, 1997).

Monolithic Arabization of language policy and planning in an equally autochthonous environment of transformation would more likely produce some hetero-linguistic phenomena such as surrealist literature on the subject of linguistic dynamism and context-centric adaptation (Coulmas, 1994). The institutional parameters that have been put in place in countries like Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have basically helped in this process of Arabization of policy and planning environments (Sharkey, 2008).

This study would be focused on the institutional, governmental and academic influences on the linguistic transformation of Arab society. Research questions • What dynamic linguistic factors have contributed to the Arabization of language policy and planning processes and procedures in the Arab world?• How has Arabization impacted on the language policy and planning environment within the larger societal context in the Middle East? • To what extent has the Arabization policy-making and planning environment impacted on the policy implementation related outcomes?

• How and why the Arabization process has impacted the linguistic and cultural concepts to produce the current level of policy and planning hybridization within Arab society?• What are the connotations and denotations of Arabization related process change taking place at the language policy-making and planning level in the Arab world?
