Effort, Improvement, and Mastery: The Reasons to Get a Top Grade - Essay Example

It is an important decision when a teacher gives a grade to a student. How can you as a teacher know when a student deserves an A Fortunately, you can look to my personal performance over the past semester to see what must be done to earn an A. I deserve the top mark because of my strong work ethic, my steady improvement, and my knowledge of the writing forms featured in our class.My strong work ethic has served me well in this class and supports that I should get an A. Even though English is my second language, I have shown my best effort in my performance.

I realize that hearing the teacher in class and working with my peers are excellent ways to improve, so I have been to every class. Sometimes it is easy for students to convince themselves they need to miss a class to work on a project or paper, but I am careful to plan my time so that I can complete my assignments and attend all classes, too. I know that I need to put in time and quality practice to improve my writing, and I am willing to do it because it will give me big benefits in the future.

In addition to my strong work ethic, another reason to award me an A is my steady improvement throughout the semester. By making such a steady effort, I have learned much more about writing as a process. Now I know that even good writers practice, make mistakes, and even look back at old pieces and find things they would now like to change. I have learned that if I find mistakes or others find mistakes that this is part of learning and does not mean just that my writing is bad. Instead, I am lucky because I know just what to fix to make the writing better next time.

My steady improvement has come partly from my reflections as a writer. Before, during, and after writing, I try to think about what is going well with my paper and what could be improved. I try to imagine reading it like someone else would read it to see if it makes good sense. I also read my paper out loud to see how it sounds. These are good examples of how I am able to make steady improvements as a writer and tell why I deserve the top mark.The best reason I deserve an A is, because of my strong work ethic and steady improvement, I have learned very much about the writing forms of narratives, definition essays, and argumentative essays.

That is the most important thing. Not only do I know that narratives are essays that tell stories: I know that they have characters, a setting, a conflict, and a resolution. I know how to plan a narrative so it includes everything I want in it. I also know much more about writing definition essays. My goal is to become more skilled in selecting and describing details to write better definition essays. For argumentative essays, I have learned how to state an opinion and back it up with facts to make the reader see my point of view.

For all these writing forms, I have gained a good working knowledge. I am using what I already know to improve my vocabulary, grammar, and sentence structure through practice. Because I have learned the most important things about each writing form and work to make my papers even better, I hope you agree that my work deserves a grade of A.No doubt you see many papers and judge they deserve an A.
