I am aware of the tremendous progress expected in the field of pharmacy in the coming years. I am fascinated by the transition of pharmacy from dispensing the correct medication to providing total pharmaceutical care. With huge advances taking place in medical science and technology, future pharmacists will have to constantly update their knowledge and be prepared to meet the new challenges. In the future, professionals like medical practitioners, pharmacists, and caregivers would be working as a team to provide better care and advice to patients.
I am eager to be a part of the advances taking place in the field of pharmacy such as direct patient care. Another area that interests me is medication errors. The research I did before applying for the course indicates that this problem has gained a lot of emphasis in medical circles. Further, my brother is a doctor and my sister is already in the pharmacy field. Their discussions about drugs and their effects have awakened in me a keen interest in the subject. I believe that pharmacists can contribute in a significant way towards eliminating the threat. I would like to focus my efforts in this field.

A Doctor of Pharmacy program would also fit my background, as mentioned earlier. I have already completed a few chemistry courses as part of my Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Purdue University. As I have noticed from MCPHS's curriculum, these courses are also fundamental to the Doctor of Pharmacy program.
If I am given the opportunity to attend MCPHS, I am prepared to work hard to meet the challenges of the field. I understand that I will need to develop a strong foundation to build the necessary skills. Apart from developing a thorough knowledge of the study topics, I will need to acquire the tools for effective communication with patients and other professionals. I also plan to develop my computer skills, as computers are going to be used more and more and in new ways to enhance communication between the various disciplines and the end-user.
In view of my keen interest and background, I request you to consider my application for the Doctor of Pharmacy program. If selected, I assure you that I will abide by the requirements of the institute and course, and work hard to achieve goals. Read More

Chemistry of Life: Admission for Pharmacy Program

Personal ment: My Chemistry of Life I have a vivid childhood memory of my little sister struggling to breathe during an asthma attack. Her medication, Decadron, eased the symptoms. I recall my mother's concerns about the drug's side effects. Interested and confused, I tried to understand how something so helpful could also be harmful. Her muscles weakened and her heart rate increased. So began my passion to explore how illness happened, and how pharmaceutics worked in its treatment. I called it "the chemistry of life" and decided to focus on learning everything about this subject. I would be a pharmacist one day. At high school in Brazil, I enrolled on a chemistry course and when I left school, what better way to increase my...

The research was conducted at the St. Thomas Hospital and literature review and study of secondary data were the major tools for drawing inferences and arriving at conclusions. Pharmacist intervention monitoring (PIM) sheets from St. Thomas hospital were collected and analysed, for a three month period in both 2007 and 2008. The interventions made by pharmacists during their daily cardiac surgery rounds during the above period were studied and analysed.
Though there was not enough evidence from the materials collected, to conclude that pharmacist interventions have helped significantly to reduce costs, minimize clinical errors or enhanced the quality of treatment, study of the data collected revealed that they can contribute...
