Extract of sample "Professional Learning Community"

According to Hord (2009), Educators work together for the improved benefit of student learning. The significant factor that determines the success of the students is the ability of teachers’ ability to offer quality teaching and when this fails, most students are bound to fail in their attempts to succeed or understand the teaching concepts clearly. Most members of the staff understand the linkage that exists between receiving knowledge in their different institutions and learning or working with colleagues. However, areas, where staffs’ attention is seriously required, are the same areas where students do not place much emphasis since they work collectively to contribute to the general success of the institutions. However, most students have taken learning as an add-on to their educational career and in most cases do not work collectively as they busy competing against each other for their academic success.

It is proven that the learning process can not be a success without certain factors being considered by professionals. In a professional learning community, society members must be in attendance. Both students and staff must gather and come to an amicable solution on the curriculum, instructional strategies, data, goals, and the type of learning required to make the process a success. The professionals also are required to direct their attention to the needs of the students involved so as to provide a common purpose for all the students in the school.

Professional learning communities also require effective leadership to oversee the whole process. Capable hands of professionals are tasked with major roles of defining purposes for both staff and students in different schools and organizations. This promotes success as the students and staff are provided with the needed support which is essential to the learning process and success of students. School heads are also tasked with the responsibility of identifying and setting a space for the professional learning community or faculty involved in the process. This allows members of the staff to gain insight from fellow staff members as there is sharing of teaching practices and artifacts needed in student learning.

According to Gamble (2008), a professional learning community transforms the professional development of both the teachers and administrators into goals. It provides a system that enables both parties to fully benefit from it as it advocates for theories and practices which are in accordance with the learning and work environment. The community is data-driven as both the teaching and administrating professionals are self-motivated by the need to meet the different educational and work requirements for the students or employees. It also greatly depends on both parties accepting their responsibilities in accordance with the work structure existing within society. The professional learning community incorporates the attitude of professional development amongst educators in schools. It provides both parties concerned with a goal that they work to attain. In addition, the professional learning community offers teachers all the relevant resources they need to become successful in their teaching process to the students. They are motivated to become better and efficient at their work and this results positively as the grades and performance of the students in school and after school improves significantly.

Teachers are provided with an opportunity of what to access for the students’ ideas, how to access them, and ways to conveying them to the students.  The professional learning community also provides teachers with the trustworthiness needed in the current data-driven curriculum as they have their objectives and goals organized before presenting them to the students for knowledge purposes. They are able to direct both the scholars and the school into an organization that is suitable for long-term learning as they effectively plan, collaborate ideas and teaching processes.

A professional learning community is designed to improve the many conditions that affect a student's learning. It is advantageous to different school cultures as it brings unique previous information to the students learning positions. This is helpful as many students come from different backgrounds and learning in different situations. The community also makes learning a process that is active and reflective and most students live to remember the different knowledge in their different areas of work. Students in dissimilar schools also study to acquire knowledge uniquely and individually in different ways in schools or institutions based around the country without struggling to select specific types of schools to register in as students.

Professional learning communities serve as a school culture that recognizes and makes accurate use of the togetherness and talents possessed by different staff found in a school setting. In working environments, the professional learning community makes learning a process whereby all workers are accommodative to each other and they assimilate to the set programs within their work environment hence, enhancing productivity. Workers learn the importance of consulting when they are not sure about what is right or wrong, and the consulting process always results in new experiences that are really significant to the productivity of their institutions or organizations (Gamble). In addition, it provides workers with the opportunity to be social while working and this is proven to provide multiple perspectives as they find themselves having a shared meaning in their work process. A professional learning community avails staff members with an opportunity to share their success and work through their challenges by putting various systems in place.
