Dr. Richgels is w a widely published writer and has numerous articles that he has authored and co-authored. He has also coauthored some three textbooks on his favorite subject matter, books that have gone on to even sixth editions of publication and even been translated in Korean and Chinese. His first publication was in the year 1982 just after completing his PhD where together with Hansen R they published “Guidelines for writing gloss notations with a focus on comprehension skills and strategies”in the American Reading Forum Journal while his latest publication is in 2013.

He has just published an article titled “Talk, write and read: a method for sampling emergent literacy skills” in the Reading Teacher Journal. Dr. Donald Richgels interests have always focused on preschool and kindergarten children. He believes that supporting young readers and writers is a vital resource for teachers dealing with children right from birth to about eight. Literacy beginnings offer an integratedapproach to reading and writing instructions aimed at the five typical stages through which children undergo.

Most of the articles that Dr. Richgels has published have been the result of studies that he and his colleagues have conducted with the use of observational case studies, literature reviews and many years’ experience in working extensively with teachers of preschoolers and kindergarten students. A lot of his research has therefore concentrated on looking at tried and tested methods of effectively imparting reading, speech and knowledge skills on children from an early age, as a basis for their learning experience in the latter years of their life.

He has progressively continued to dig deeper into the learning child’s mental development with incisive and insightful examination and re-examination of their learning methods, with a keen eye on what works best, what is most effective and what teachers can pick and learn from them. Dr. Richgels has basically concentrated on the narrow focus on learning methodologies for the young learners and through the years, built up an arsenal of impressive hands on research that has a great of deal of practical application in this highly specialized subject matter.

Over the years his interest and research has grown from the pre-school years to the early schooling years and has been focused on the incremental development of the child’s learning abilities and the different impacts that various teaching methods, styles and approaches have on children’s mental and academic upbringing. Dr. Richgels co-authored the highly acclaimed and widely used text-book on the development of literacy and learning for children from birth to age eight, following the five typical stages of development that all children normally go through.

The book has a student-cent red and constructive theory and practice while at the same time emphasizing the need for a direct, systematic and assessment driven instruction. The book, now in its sixth edition, is very specifically focused on equipping teachers of pre-school and kindergarten instructors on tried and tested techniques and methods for not only imparting literacy skills but also effectively evaluating the impact and success of the entire process (McGee & Richgels, 2011). In his early studies, Donald Richgels was more concerned with how children make
