Diversity and curriculum development Introduction Of late, the world has been growing positively with nearly everyone talking of balances among the people. May it be in the places of work, in homes, in the government in schools etc. Gender balances and equity has become a topic of discussion in many debates. The inclusion of all from the able ones to the disabled, all forming key forces and being respected by all. Diversity and cultural development, simply means living in oneness without discriminating each other. This discrimination may be based on cultural differences where people from a particular community or culture view others as inferior. It may be also from racism where people from a particular race view themselves as more superior to other. Nevertheless, the most sensitive case is where the disabled ones are discriminated by the able ones. This stigmatization makes them feel so worthless and do not see the essence of living. This paper discusses the context of developing a curriculum in high school where all the individuals regardless of their gender, race, able or disabled are included and their output valued. This essay defines and discusses in broad the issues surrounding the different types of cultural in the high school. Managing a diverse cultural based institution is a little bit hectic. This is because, the people or the people who are being led have different types beliefs based on their backgrounds. The main key issues in the cultural diverse cases are to make these people with different opinions and beliefs about interaction with the others to have one mind and on the same basis with all the others (Coulby, 2000). As a leader drafting the curriculum, I must be able to bring measures by which all the students have to adhere to in order not to go against this critical rule. For example, I may bring in the school rules and regulations, a rule that involves punishment to a particular extent may be expulsion from school if anyone says something negative to his/her colleague of which may viewed as discrimination of some kind. Another issue that may be brought by diverse based institution is the case of language barriers. In the efforts to develop a oneness institutions in the world, this has been a much threatening monster that has made some institutions to fail in their efforts to make this issue succeed. This case happens due to the different ethnic groups that the students come from. Since the students can easily communicate well with the friends, this results in the students who share a common language to form different groups in the school basing on these language groups. To bring this case into control, I will introduce a common language that every student is well conversant with. I make it mandatory that every student communicates using this language. For example, English is an international language and no any high school student who will understand the language. The other issue is to introduce a course that interpolates the different cultures and which teach students of the importance of being together in a mixed diverse cultures. The benefits of the diverse culture curriculum is that the students will be able to learn others cultures and beliefs. It will enhance unity among the different ethnic communities since they will get to understand each other while in school, and upon getting home, they will tell their colleagues. For example, a particular community may be having a negative perception against another, where these colleagues will tell them that what they think is not the case. Another benefit is that accrues a community practicing in diverse cultural practices, is the issue of efficiency and effectiveness in performing tax. This is because different people from different parts of the world have different talents. For example, people from Brazil are magnificent in football, those from Chicago, perfect in basketball. In the context involving the diversity of male and female students, of late this issue is overshadowed by time, and bringing the cases of male female students’ interaction will not be much hectic. However, there are still other communities which are still being held in the cocoon of male chauvinism. The main challenge will be to make these individuals to value the female students as same as they value the male ones. In order to deal with issue fully, I will argue my fellow committee members to pass the issue that any student caught discriminating his/her colleague just because of gender differences to be dealt with appropriately. This will be a lesson to him/her and to his/her friends with the same mentality. Another challenge is the issue of how the male and female students will have different resources. These resources will include the toilets, bathrooms and other activities like the queuing. Some of these issues will add on more expenses to the school. Despite the massive challenges, there are benefits, which accrue from the male, female interaction. These will include the enhanced cooperation among the two genders. With regard that the curriculum is based on cultural diversity, this may lead to students from different communities to mingle which will lead to intermarriages in future date. It also makes the students learn with efficiency the differences between the genders since they can do it practically (Connell, 2001). For example, the differences between the physical characteristics of male and female can be demonstrated practically. This brings efficiency in learning and much understanding. The most important part of this topic is to address the issue of the disabled. On the context, many people believe in secluding the disabled and provide them with the facilities they desire. The main issue surrounding the disabled students is to make fit students accept and acknowledge their ability (Handling the handicapped: a guide to the lifting and movement of disabled people, 1975). Introduction of topics that surround the interaction of people putting behind their capabilities should be implemented in the school. These subjects should be made compulsory to each student in the school. The subjects should also entail the different kinds and ways of handling different of disabilities. The main challenge in this context will be how the students with the different kinds of disabilities will share the facilities with the others. This is because, different disabled personalities required different facilities. This involves the introduction of facilities like lams in the staircases to cater for those who use the wheelchairs. The introduction of classes to cater for those students with special needs will also add more costs to the school, basing on the teachers employed and the facilities introduced. Also convincing the able students to share their facilities with the disabled will be a major challenge. On the contrary the issues have some benefits in the context that, the disabled will be able to interact with others freely. This will lead to them not feel stigmatized and reduce stress from them. This will in turn make them see the essence of living. It will also be a beneficial to the able students since they will be able to learn on different ways to handle different people with different capabilities (Cambridge, 1975). Every person in this universe has the right to live anywhere, do whatever he/she wants so long as they are not breaking the law. Everyone has a right to live quality life and interact with the others freely. It is also important for people to know of their fellow citizen’s culture and beliefs so that they will not be caught off guard if a need arises. Every person must be given the same rights to enjoy the facilities and to express their views on different matters without discrimination. It is the mandatory of the able individuals to take care of the disabled, give the best of life, and show them the worth of living. References Connell, R. (2011).
