? New York New York The of New York is the most inhabited and has the a dense population as compared to other cities in the United States of America. It is called New York City or the City Of New York to show the difference between the city and the state of New York. The City Of New York has a great influence on media, fashion, technology, entertainment, finance and education. It is situated on the biggest harbor in the world and is made up of five boroughs, all of them counties of the state of New York. The boroughs include Staten Island, Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, and The Bronx . The five boroughs make up the counties. The Staten Island is in Richmond County, Brooklyn is in the King County, the Bronx is in the Bronx County. The Queens is found in Queens County and Manahattan, New York County. In 1898, the five boroughs were merged to form a single city. In area,Queens is the largest County, because it holds 108 square miles,while Brooklyn has the highest population containing 2.3 million residents as estimated by the census conducted in 1990. The 2012 census in New York estimated the population to be 8,33697 within an area of 783.8 square kilo meters. New York City is referred to the most diverse city in terms of linguistics because residents there speak over 800 different languages. The Metropolitan Area, in New York City is the most populated in The United States, with 18.9 million residents occupying an area of 17,1400 square kilo meters (Carroll, 2012). California and Texas take first and second place respectively. As portrayed by the 2010 census, the population of New York residents was at 19,378,102, an aggrandizement of more than 400,000 people. During that period, the total population was 601,779 persons in that; the number of births which was 1,576,125 deduct the number of deaths which was 974,346 less the residents migrating who added up to 422,481 persons. The city is surrounded by three islands, Staten Island, Manhattan And Western Long Island. This is the reason why the city is densely populated due to the scarcity of land. River Hudson flows the Hudson Valley and enters New York Bay, resulting to a tidal bay, demarcating Northern New Jersey from Manahattan and Bronx. Harlem River, is another tidal anchorage, separating the Bronx from Manhattan. The New York City counties sprawl between two Eastern North American provinces bordering each other. Long Island, the location of Queens and Brooklyn are constituted in the plains of East Coast. Long Island, a huge ridge was formed at the Southern Borderline of the Laurentide Ice Sheet in the last glacial period. Newark Basin is an incrustation of the earth that subsided during the decomposition of the Supercontinent Pangaea in the Triassic period. The area which New York City occupies is approximated to be 831.4 square kilometers. Be that as it may, an estimation done more recently states that the area is now at 784.4 square kilometers. The bridge is used by residents and tourists to cross from one view point on the river to the other. The path broadens in two points to cater for markers of history pulling people to come and enjoy the sites. The State Of New York has numerous rivers, lakes, reservoirs, and ponds. These waterbodies supply drinking water all over the city, aid the important sectors in the economy of the city like fishing, generation of power, agriculture and tourism. The ponds and lakes inhabit aquatic life and are used by residents for swimming and boating. Lake Ontario, Lake Champlain, and Lake Erie are among the significant lakes in New York City. This city is endowed with quite a number of rivers and streams which in turn flow to bigger water bodies. The most distinguished rivers include the Hudson River, The Saint Lawrence River, The Susquehanna River, The Niagara River and The Delaware River(Johnson & Evan, 2004). They are, John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) located in Queens, Van Wych Expressway. It basically handles international flights. Laguardia Airport(LGA) is also located in Queens, Grand Central Parkway. It primarily handles homelike flights (within the united states). Newark International Airport (EWR) is situated in New Jersey and deals with both international and domestic flights. Being away from the city, it is less crowded and has upgraded facilities(Johnson & Evan, 2004). Recovery Residences The fresh start recovers residence is a non profitable organization which helps persons with drug addictions living in the streets. It is situated in Nassau County, New York. The residence is made up of 3 recovery houses, 2 for gents and 1 for the ladies stocked with 10 beds in each room. They cultivate a sober healing environment leading to healthy, responsible living free from drugs. Other recovery homes in New York include Harrison House, Hazeldens Tribeca Twelve, and St. Georges House, a residence for men who are in early recovery. St. Georges is situated in Staten Island, New York (Carroll, 2012). Community Emergency Preparedness and Response The emergency response team is liable for educating civilians about preparedness for disasters and hazards that can affect them and nurture their skills and tactics on disaster response, for example in case of fire. Having gained the required knowledge on disaster preparedness and management, the trained persons are able to other people in their community, at school, and at work in case any unusual occurrence (Johnson & Evan, 2004). The City Of New York’s emergency system is made up of 70 medical agencies whereby each sector has its own peculiar and important duties in the system to carry out. The systems are governed by the Regional Emergency Medical Advisory Committee (REMAC).
