One of the reasons I want to pursue a master’s degree in engineering is because I want to become a full-time professor in the future. The fact that bilingual (English / Spanish) is a great attribute to have as an educator. In 2005 I moved to Boston and started working in the field of sales engineering of different instrumentation companies while at the same time teaching part-time at Wentworth Institute of Technology. One of the best learning experiences about my sales job was the opportunity for different parts of Latin America and visit factories and rural places. I am interested in the Umass Lowell’s Master of Science Degree Program in Energy Engineering because of my interest in solar energy. I read about the different projects in place such as the Peru Project and would like to eventually implement something similar in Mexican communities and other Latin American communities where there is no electricity, telephone service, and untreated drinking water. Research Methodologies and Their Application to Counseling

Data must be subjected to the thinking process in terms of ordered reasoning.

Descriptive Research describes and interprets what it is. It is concerned with conditions of relationships that exist; practices that prevail; beliefs, processes that are going on; effects that are being felt, or trends that are developing.

The process of descriptive research goes beyond mere gathering and tabulation of data. It involves the elements or interpretation of the meaning or significance of what is described. Thus description is often combined with comparison and contrast involving measurements, classifications, interpretation, and evaluation.

In other words, descriptive research may be defined as the purposive...

Civil Engineering Job Sector

The main aim of civil engineering is to make the life of man easy by constructing things like roads that will aid in the transportation of goods and services (Blair, 2007).
Civil engineering started to gain recognition in the United Kingdom in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. There was a foundation of very many professional bodies and societies, for example, the Law and Royal Society. Form the late 18th century a group of people, civil engineers, met regularly thus led to the formation of a society of Civil Engineers in the year 1771. The person behind all the success was John Smeaton. It is known as the Smeatonian Society. This further led to a formation of the institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) whose first presiden...

Building Engineering Services and Analysis of Core Systems

Finally, we will conduct an in-depth analysis of the heating and insulation systems available in modern homes and propose a strategy to optimize the energy consumption and maximize customer comfort.

Building Service Engineers are usually mechanical or electrical engineers, who do not necessarily have a degree in Building Services Engineering. They start contributing to inputs before the building construction commences. Their assessment starts with researching the suitability of the building site for construction and also foreseeing the provisions to connect services to supply lines. Based on this analysis, they conduct discussions with the client, architects and structural engineers to concur on an installation design t...

Infrastructure Application and Review: France

Referring specifically to the country’s water network, Jacobson et al. (1995) notice that ‘although waterworks facilities in France are predominantly government-owned, private firms operate and manage most systems under an array of contracting and leasing arrangements’ (Jacobson et al., 1995, online article). The above study describes the general terms under which the development of infrastructure systems in France is progressing. It should be noticed at this point that in France, the government’s policies regarding the development of infrastructure systems were not always effective – moreover, they were rather limited. Indeed, in a report published by the OECD in 2005, it is noticed that ‘in 19...

Organizational Behaviour: The Application of Theory X and Y

People are not just a “resource”. Each person is a complicated web of likes, dislikes, ambitions, fears, interests, passions – in short, every imaginable sentiment and belief. While it is true that people respond to a degree to external pressure, there is a point at which they will only act when they are personally convinced of the usefulness and rightness of their actions.
In an attempt to understand in a scientific way the principles by which people may be motivated, a man named Douglas McGregor had formulated a theory on human resource motivation. This is known as the principle of Theory X and Theory Y.
Almost 50 years ago, in 1960, Douglas McGregor began a debate when a published his book entitled T...

Microprocessor System and Application

In a computer, a processor commonly involves one or more microprocessors (also acknowledged as chips), which are silvers of silicon or other substance stamped with many little electronic circuits. To perform operations on data, the computer passes electricity all the way through circuits to execute an instruction (Norton 2001.p. 5). The innovation in technology has brought a lot of facilities for us. We have better ways of life and all the facilities regarding better production and domestic tasks. Such as in the industrial production we have automatic robots that are welding, packing, moving and carrying out several other development-related tasks. These robots are pre-programmed and microprocessors based chips are controlling all...

Organisations in the Engineering and Technology Environment: Singapore Airlines

In those days, just three flights per week, to Kuala Lumpur, Ipoh, and Penang, were all that the people in Singapore were privileged to. There were very fast developments in the situation in a span of two decades. During this period, Singapore’s Kallang Airport gained international exposure and started making huge additions to its fleet. Soon after the birth of the Federation of Malaysia on February 1963, the Malayan Airlines came to be known as the Malaysian Airlines, and in 1966, it was renamed the Malaysian-Singapore Airlines.
