The paper "Orbitz's Mobile Web Technologies" is a great example of an essay on e-commerce. Compared to traditional desktop computers, mobile phone users are more likely to book a room or airline reservation for the same day because Orbitz has developed a mobile technology that allows mobile phone users to secure accommodations in hotels and make airline reservations, including one-day reservations by using their mobile phones. Orbitz designed mobile web technology because business travelers have started using Smartphones and other web-enabled mobile devices rather than traditional desktops. Orbitz developed a mobile web in 2010 to allow mobile phone users to access a toolset like that one on regular websites. This toolset can be used by mobile phone users to book for room and airline reservations using their mobile phones as long as they are web-enabled. Compared to computers, it is more effective to use a mobile phone to make reservations because they are mobile, so one can make reservations wherever they are.
Orbitz decided to design a mobile website for corporate users rather than native apps because there were rules that applied in each company which necessitated them to abide by specific vendors. As a result, Orbit had to develop a mobile website for corporate users in order to customize them to fit the company-specific rules for every company. Some of the company-specific rules that called for customization of mobile webs include specific vendors, cost requirements, compulsory services, and mandatory documents. This web site was also designed to achieve uniformity for each type of device used by the customer and to enhance adherence to travel policies for clients.
Business logic refers to the technology which is used by a business to make its services unique and make it's business operations simpler and more effective. They are the applications that a business uses to conduct its activities more competitively. Corporate travelers had to have online reservation systems that included business logic in order to gain a competitive advantage. This is because business logic enables them to do their things fast and conduct their business activities while they are traveling. Business logic enhances the effectiveness of corporate travelers as they make deals for their business. In other words, it promotes business success through efficient services and enhanced competitive advantage.
Orbitz reversed its policy in 2012 and built a native app for each mobile platform rather than building a single mobile web because it enabled mobile user customers to have more advantages than when they could use the mobile website. One of those advantages is that a native app was enhanced with a filtering tool that has improvements. The filtering tool allowed users to make comparisons and searches by cost, star ratings, and distance. The app also allowed users to secure flight, rental reservations, and lodging simpler than when they could use a single mobile web site. Browser screens were also eliminated by the use of a native app. The app also allowed for the repetition of data entry and performance of the three operations in a continuous in-app stream by the users. The native app also allowed users to avoid redirects which are always disruptive and time-consuming. The ease of use and speed of the native app was also intended to give Orbitz a competitive advantage.
