Internship Reflection paper - Admission/Application Essay Example

The company wants to help the service users in adopting technology to conduct their business from anyplace of operation. The mission of the company is, therefore, to “make it easy to do business anywhere”. The company was set up in 1999 by an English teacher, Jack Ma with only 18 people as employees. The founders of the company had a vision during the very nascent stage that disruptive technology will play a dominant role in the future, mainly by promoting small entrepreneurs. It was believed that small entrepreneurs could particularly take the help of internet based technology and adopt innovative practices for facilitating growth of their enterprises (Alibaba Group, 2014).

After completing a decade long journey, the vision materialized as Alibaba became one of the world’s largest e-commerce companies. In 2012, two portals of Alibaba had generated sales, which were estimated to be $170 billion, surpassing both eBay and Amazon collectively (The Economist, 2013). In contemporary times, the business ranges from offering advertising and marketing services to cloud-based computing and from providing network services to mobile solutions. The corporate culture of the company is based on a customer centric strategy prioritizing needs of the customers.

The corporate culture is flexible and readily adapts itself to changes for survival. Employees are nurtured in a culture of passion and integrity that enhances commitment towards work within the organization. The organization promotes teamwork among the employees to maximize work efficiency. The organization believes that shared values among the employees and the top management will help to establish a common company culture, which will sustain the growth in future (Alibaba Group, 2014). Recently, I have had the privilege of working with the Alibaba Group by doing an internship with them.
