Design Consideration of a Conventional Television
Need
Several administrations and organizations prefer using conventional television systems. These organizations and administration use conventional television systems for the purpose of education and entertainment. Also, organizations and administrations rely on television for information purposes which can be incorporated together with education and entertainment. The need of a television can also be narrowed down to affordability and taste of the user. Therefore, the taste of the user is associated with the ease of use. For example, smart television is easier to use than CRT television. Even though they both provide the general need which is entertainment and education, some customers will prefer digital or smart Television while others will prefer CRT televisions. The trend at which consumers will buy a given set of television is also another aspect of need when it comes to the design consideration of a conventional television. Therefore, there is need of designing a television that meets the current demand of the market.
Evolution of the Design
The ore original model of television was invented in 1925 by a Scottish known as John Logie Baird. The original model was using the technology of a mechanical rotating disc to display the images on a three-inch screen. Since then the images that were being displayed by televisions was in the form of black and white until the design of a color television was made available in the year of 1940. However, network broadcasters were not pushing for the advancement of color television because a color television will require three times the bandwidth that is required for a black and white television. Captioning is another factor that has affected the evolution of the various design of television. The developers of captioning systems have come up with technology known as subtitles. The technology has enabled hearing impaired television fan to involve adequately in television activities. The technology of subtitles functions in that the actions on the television can be transcribed via text for the hearing-impaired individuals.
Since the introduction of the color televisions, there exists the emergence of digital broadcasting. The method of digital broadcasting employs the use of a multiplex signal that can deliver more information in a single data stream. The digital HD broadcasting have enhancement of 16:9 ratio options which are classified as 1280X720 and 1920. Even though digital broadcasting is better than analog broadcasting, digital broadcasting comes with heightened demand when it comes to bandwidth.
The recent advancement in television design is the introductions of smart apps which have to improve the viewing experience that comes with television. Through the use of smart apps, the user of smart TV can stream and consume television programs in a smart manner. The latest versions of smart TV have the functionality that can enable can enable the owner of smart TV to scheduled and program the T.V shows and movies that they love.
Material specifications
A television set consists of four major parts that the housing or the exterior part, the picture tube, the speaker and audio reception system, and electronic parts. The housing part of a conventional television is made from plastic through a process known as injection molding (Goldberg 138). During the injection molding process, precisions molds are formed in which molten plastic which is under high pressure is injected into these molds of the specific television housing designs. The molds are designed in the manner that the bracket and the support become piece of the housing.
Picture Tube
The picture television tube is usually made of precision glass that is shaped in the form of a little curved plate formed in front of the screen. The screen also has a shadowy tint that is mounted into the face of the glass plate. The purpose of the darker face plates is to improve on the aspect of contrast. During the production of the picture tube, a combination of phosphor chemicals and water suspension is permitted to settle inside the face plate in the form of a coating (Braithwaite 56). The coating is overlaid with aluminum film that can allow electrons to pass through. The film acts as a reflector that prevents bouncing back of light into the picture tube. A gas plasma technology is also applied to the screen. The technology uses electrodes that are responsible for the excitation of layers of magnesium oxides and neon to release ultraviolet radiation which in turn activates the phosphors that are found at the back of the screen.
Because of the growing technology of the television, the best picture tubes are incorporated with shadow covers that are precisely produced from an alloy of nickel-iron known as Invar (Fisher 8). The shadow mask is designed in such a way that it can align the colors that are emitted by the electron beams. The advantage of using the nickel-iron alloy is that it can allow the picture tube to function at high temperature without interfering with the image being produced.
Audio system
The housing of the television systems contains wiring fittings, speakers, and elements that are suitable for audio system. These speakers are produced through special manufacturing process, so they are usually assembled into the television system as a sub-assembly. Also, the integrated circuit and electronics controls are assembled in the form of panels.
Electronic parts
After assembling the audio system and the picture tube, other electronics parts are usually added at the back of the television set. These parts include the electronics parts for receiving the signals from the remote control, antennae, and output and input jack cables which are made from plastics and copper wires.
Sustainability of the design
Sustainability of a television design is ensured through vigorous quality control measures. Quality control can be done through laboratory testing, inspections, and field testing of the prototype. The process of the quality control is to ensure that the product of the design is safe to be used in homes and business organizations. Moreover, after the design and the manufacturing process, there is always no byproducts that are associated with a television system. The reason is that families of the components are usually produced by the same manufacturer (Barker 60). However, there are elements of wastes which include glass, plastics, and metals. These waste products can be isolated and recycled unless they are coated with some elements of chemicals.
Marketing
Marketing of the conventional television will depend on choices of the customers. Some customers prefer CRT television because CRT television can deliver the quality pictures which have accurate colors. However, some customers do not like them because of their weight and bulk sizes. Additionally, some customers prefer digital televisions because technologically wise they are far much better than CRT televisions. Similarly, some customers will go for smart televisions because the functionality of the smart television can be easily be programmed. Apart from the customer choices, affordability is also another factor that can influence marketability of conventional televisions. Because of affordability, not all consumers will prefer smart television even though it is currently the best television in the market.
Design Improvement
The future design development of television is on HDTV (High Definition Television). This technology enables television systems to produce videos and movies of high quality. Design development for HDTV includes the incorporation of synthetic diamond film that can be used for the emission of electrons. Another improvement should include the integration of the electric components with gold-plated jacks which can create an internal polarity switch, therefore, reducing the effect of earth’s magnetic field. Also, the future design for the digital television should enable the viewer to operate the camera angle so as to communicate easily with the commentator of sports and at the same time the user can edit and splice movie on the television. Another significant design improvement is the design of a highbred television which composes of a telephone, television, and a computer monitor in a single unit.
