What drives a design in technology? Technology and design are correlated to each other. Different design schemes promote the use of advanced technologies. In the similar way, technologies also require design schemes to go also with the technology, as technology is nothing without artistic appeal. Designers are hired to enhance the artistic appeal of a certain product influenced with technology. Now a day, interior designing is considered the most important part of design and construction. It is preplanned before the construction starts and executed after the construction of the building. Typical residential structures are formatted to suit a living standard of a typical person or a family and interior is such designed to provide with the basic as well as luxurious life style. Modernly, interior designing is much influenced with technology. Technology is much promoted in interior designing. The use of indoor lights, LEDs, displays and LCD and LED displays enhance and beautify the indoor space. On the other hand, the use of appropriate floor lights also enhances the typical indoor space. Interior designing is not only to satisfy the artistic behaviors of a person but it also influences the physical and mental health of a person. A mystically decorated interior may help the staff to work efficiently. In the similar manner, interiors with appropriate designing schemes help the workers and employees to think positively and generate something good for the organization. Now a day, organization consider interior designing an important aspect to alter the working behaviors of the workers. In the similar manner, super stores and super markets use the interior designing in arranging the racks and counters in such a manner that influences the customers to buy more. On the other hand, the use of proper lights and proper lightening also influences the customers. Colored lights, LED lights and LED displays are also added to enhance the visibility of the product. The introduction of new software allows the designers and the prospects to be more appropriate while designing the home or building interiors. A number of online services are providing free interior designing software. On the other hand, companies market some of the specialized three dimensional interior designing software that have advanced feature of interior color schemes, lighting management, lighting effects, window shades, curtain color and shades, etc. Three dimensional features allow the user to rotate the room or interior and checkout all the walls and floor of the room. Some of the best interior designing programs are Autodesk Homestyler, Sweet home 3D, 3D spacer, Roomle, HGTV Home Design & Remodeling Suite and Home Designer Suite 10. All the programs are with enhanced 3D versions that enable the users to develop a design with the help of simple tools. It is always argued that designers increase the cost of the cost of the interior by adding unnecessary decorative items in the interior that increase the cost of designing and makes the interior a bit bulky. But the modern software applications allow the users to select as less items as they are comfortable with and reduce the cost of designing significantly. A typical design considers aesthetics, budget and requirements. On the other hand, requirements include the needs and wants. Needs are never compromised. Sleeping place, Kitchen, sitting place are the needs of an interior design in case of home. While other decorative that enhance and beautify the interior are the wants. A balance between the needs and wants enhance the cost effectiveness of the interior design. However, if only the needs are manages, the aesthetics of the interior designing gets influenced. It is necessary to cover the needs and fulfill some of the most appealable desires to cope with the designing strategies. A balance between the aesthetic aspects and the needs not only reduces the effective cost of the interior designing but also restricts the interiors from being over crowded with decorative items that have no or little requirement. Green Designing Interior design should consume as less resources as possible. As the modern world is facing immense energy problems, the interior design should be in such a manner that it should support the green architectural plan. Lighting in the interior consume immense amount of energy. If natural light in the interior design is promoted, the energy consumption of the lights during day time can be reduced. In the similar manner, using interior space effectively reduces the cooling and lighting cost. Interior space can be used efficiently by selecting and developing such designing techniques that use the space for multiple purposes. Multipurpose furniture should be used to enhance the space utility. In the similar manner, foldable and cabinet beds are immensely useful in retrieving space and enhancing the space utilization. On the other hand, energy efficient technologies like using LED blubs instead of incandescent or florescent blubs save a huge amount of energy. An incandescent blub only convert 5% of the energy to light, while LED bulbs consume very little amount of energy. In the modern world such technologies should be promoted that have high energy efficiency and reduce the burden on the national grid. Use of microprocessor and microcontroller in interior designing The use of sensing technologies in the interior designing enhances the aesthetics of the interior designing. Mood detection devices dim the lights of the room as per the weather conditions or the temperature outside the room. The lights can produce warm or cool effects as per the requirements of the user. In the latest technologies of touch screens and mobile apps, every single will have a different pattern and color scheme in accordance with the user selection (Zachary). The latest technology of OLED can transform a normal mirror into a touch screen display or in other words we can say that a transparent touch screen will remain a mirror but transformed into a touch screen when used moves along its axis. Now a day, interior designing utilizes the technology to enhance the space utility and aesthetics of the interior. A carefully designed interior not only enhances the beauty of the indoor but also influences the physiological behavior of inmates (Zachary). Hilton design studio produces design schemes to suit various type of industries. The company collects the ideas form the owners and developers and strategize a design that the organization implements in accordance with the industry needs and requirements. Smart and valuable technologies always influence the customers of the Hilton design studio. In the hospitality market the use of smart technologies not only enhances the reputation of the certain chain but also enhances the customer’s satisfaction in hospitality industry. The use of electronic menus, voice recognitions and smart solution for the hospitality industry not only gain the customer but also relives the orders bookers and reduces the chances of mistakes or human errors (Lynn). In the similar manner, the use of smart technologies in the hotel rooms like the dimming of lights, electronic curtain folding, temperature selectivity, door lock, etc are of much importance in the hotel industry. In the similar manner, the use of modern safety and security systems like, fire safety, fire messages, emergency care, etc also combines the technology and the designing (Lynn). Health and fitness solutions are also provided to meet the demands of the customers. In this way, a well designed interior should have a place for health and fitness activity, a fully comfortable and well equipped resting place and well balanced sitting place that should have place for a meeting, a formal and informal conversation and fully manageable closet (Lynn). In the future, there will be immense use of smart phone apps and digital displays. Our smart phone will have apps that control various different functions of the interior design. Every electrical and electronic appliance will have touch screen that control the output and inputs of the electronic appliance. Refrigerator will have a touch screen similar to an IPad that will never make let us bored. Refrigerators will palsy music and videos directly through internet. No matter where we are a touch screen will be there for us (Zachary). Door bells are fitted with voice recognition and open the door automatically after recognizing the owner’s voice. Enhanced safety and security system will capture video and sound every second and upload it directly on the internet. It will also inform the owner, it captures any thing different inside the house or building. The users have the authority to change the color schemes and light scheme of the home just by selecting the correct color from the IPAD. In the similar manner, the color schemes will be adjusted automatically so that room will automatically change the color and the lights as per user directions (Zachary). In the future, each single technology will combine and in combination will generate a technology that will enhance the living experience of the users. A technology known as the “Chormcast”, make the television into an online browser, making it easy for the users to browse directly from the device without using mobile app or PC. We can easily watch YouTube videos by using the device. In the near future, every surface will be equipped with such technology and every surface can be converted into a browser that is capable of browsing the videos with the help of voice recognition and motion of the arm or fingers (Zachary). However, the innovation in the technology is only a beginning of personalization. Simple alterations in the window shading are embedded in the architectural design of the structure. A newly marketed electronic product known as “SONTE film” is a shading surface device that can be easily connectable with the help of wireless communication channel. Some other products are also marketed that are capable of controlling the lights with the help of Wifi. The shading options, the walls color schemes, moving light fixtures, dimming of lights, touch screen displays etc are the countless options that we will have in future. “XKGlow” is a company that is researching the movable LED lights fixtures. However, the advantages and disadvantages of such a technology are still under discussion (Zachary). In the future, there will every surface cab be converted into a display and keyboard with the help of movable light fixtures. If senior manager gives presentation on a screen, the screen can be there in front of every employee attending the meeting. Samsung developed a simple translucent touch screen display and marketed it as “OLED touch screen display”. The OLED tough screen display will remain translucent but it capable of changing the behavior of the screen. It is a proper touch screen display but can portray proper colors and can transform itself into a proper mirror like surface. There will be immense use of technology in the near future (Zachary). The technologies like the E-ink, micro projectors and wireless charging surfaces will interact in the near future and develop such technologies in the near future with will enhance the aesthetics of the interior and reduce the space requirement of the interior. Here one thing is quite clear that in the near future, the interior designing will use the digital technologies and no interior design will prove its worth without the use of digital technologies (Zachary). Design is much important for a technology. Consider a product that is not aesthetically appealing at all but it is much technologically advanced; fewer people will tend to buy the product. Now consider a product like of mobile phone, marketing department tend to make it more aesthetically appealing by advertising its various features with a design that appeals users to the mobile phone (Curiosity). It is not only the engineering perspective of the product that appeals users to buy the product but also the design parameters of the product enhance it market value and catch the attention of the users. Dr. Astro Teller, Director of New Projects, Google, argues, “Design is tremendously important. Take Apple… I believe that they have ascended to their current greatness not because of their engineering skills but because of their design skills. Their engineering skills prowess is also important, but I really believe that the marketing came on the tails of the design and not the other way around”. Further Dr. Astro Teller, argues, “There is more to building a great building than just great engineering” (Curiosity). Michael Dell, Chairman and CEO, Dell Inc, argues, “I think the design aesthetic is definitely an area where theres been a lot of progress and improvement. Theres been very nice progress in the types of materials and the forms and shapes. We can make these devices much smaller” (Curiosity). Design and technology are correlated to each other. There is no argument that the product has to be aesthetically appealing, but on the other hand, besides being aesthetically appealing, it should prove to be technologically advanced. Nowadays, the marketing strategies used by international or local businesses develop a product in such a manner, that the design of the product should collaborate with the engineering perspectives of the product. It is only the human aesthetic sense that appeals the technology to have a design that is aesthetically appealing. Without design and management, technology appears nothing. In fact, with the passage of time, people are realizing the importance of technology and design in their lives. Design is as crucial and required as technology and technology alone cannot make people accept it (Blodgett). The advent of computers attracted people, but initially people regarded this technology as difficult. However, people continued to work towards easing out everything. With the passage of time, the designers made the technology user friendly and it was because of design that the computerized technology became acceptable to everyone. Nowadays, the mobile and electronic technology has been designed with so much excellence keeping the features of friendly user interfaces and other designing features in consideration so that people are able to accept and follow it. The devices that are connected along with the web technology have made the relationship of design with technology much compact. However, if we notice the field of designing, it is not as easy as it appears. According to John in TED Conference, "you dont do technology, you do people and the people thing and then you add technology back in" (Blodgett). Therefore, technology is something designed for people as per their interests. Technology, art and design combine each other and form a relationship. A great design is related to structure and idea. Design is structured keeping in view the features of enjoyment. Technology without a great design is unable to fabricate a balance between the two. Therefore, an excellent design is essential for the acceptance of an excellent technology (Blodgett). In fact, technology in itself appears attractive and persuasive to people because of the design that is here. It is design that makes technology to be followed. Design is in every technology whether it is building structures or computerized technology. We need designing at home whenever we choose technological products at home. We do not choose what is not good at designing. Hence, technology and design are incomplete without each other. Works Cited Blodgett, R. The Increasing Importance of Design and Technology.
