The entire process seemed long and tedious. Through some speculation into the matter, it seems that a hacker had gained unauthorized access to the online learning database and possibly damaged the data that was being held by the system. The teacher decided to email her students letting her know about the data loss from the database informing them about the possibility of a hacker who seemingly caused the damage.
After having undergone a major data loss, it now requires a large collective effort to gather the information again so that the database can be recreated for future students. The database is the backbone for the online learning platform which allows student-teacher collaboration through the platform that exists virtually in the cyberspace. Its presence over the internet was perhaps another reason that made the database vulnerable to such hacking attacks. Now a major recreation of the database was required and soon. The email sent to the students informed them and prompted them into action. Though the nature of the communication – that is, email – was essentially asynchronous, it served its purpose of informing the students each one of whom checked their email in their own convenience.
As the news spread, more and more students got to know about the data loss. Due to the networking skills of many of the students, the email had translated to social media messages on sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and so on. This method was effective to a great extent – in the present age, nearly everyone checks into their Facebook every day. Many even do it several times each day. This really expanded the level to which the information spread quickly.
