The process can be tailored according to each new network or service. This is an extremely important process that must be performed before the establishment of a new telecommunications network or service.

The best Network design for a coffee shop according to the tight budget that Miss Becca is following would be decided by selecting a type of system, selecting a protocol and network switching device, the type of cable used, the type of communication device to use and the internet service to be used. The first step would be to select the type of system. The type I would recommend is a file-server system as it is comparatively cheaper than a client/server or terminal server. The data accessed by the users are stored on a single server and their stations do not have any memory storage devices.

The second step would be selecting a protocol to be used. A protocol is a set of rules governing communication within and between computing endpoints. In our situation, it would be best to use TCP/IP. Using TCP, applications on networked hosts can create connections to one another. The protocol guarantees reliable and in-order delivery of data from sender to receiver. TCP also distinguishes data for multiple connections by concurrent applications (e.g., Web server and e-mail server) running on the same host.

TCP supports many of the Internet's most popular application protocols and resulting applications, including the World Wide Web, e-mail, File Transfer Protocol, and Secure Shell. The network switch or just switch plays an integral part in the vast majority of current Ethernet local area networks or LANs. Mid-to-large-sized LANs contain several linked managed switches. Soho or home networks typically use a single switch or simply an all-purpose device such as a DSL router, WiFi Router, or Gateway which may include a small embedded Ethernet switch.

Here we will use a WiFi Router as it would help us with both a wireless connection and the LAN. For the cabling, we would use UTP wires as they are the best suited to the scenario. Both in price and the size of the network. Unshielded twisted pair is the wiring that is commonly used in telephone companies and businesses nowadays. To decrease cross-talk between the two wires in a UTP, two insulated copper wires are wrapped around each other. Every signal carried by a UTP needs both wires.

The coffee house should purchase N.I.C. cards, WiFi routers, UTP wires, and a good internet connection for the customer's use. The internet connection that should be purchased by the coffee house should be a Dedicated Satellite connection.
