First and and Number Due (DD/MM/YY) Movie Report: Tucker the Man and His Dream The opportunity The movie is about a man called Preston Tucker who had numerous and exemplary ideas. These ideas led him to have some good opportunities. However, the opportunities were clouded by aspects of success and failure. During the beginning of the movie Tucker sells the idea of an armored vehicle to the military. This was a good opportunity, but it failed since the military turned down the idea since it was too advanced. The success of this idea can be attributed to the fact that the military embraced the idea in another form. The embraced the idea by innovating a shield for the soldiers that were shooting within the armored vehicle. The next opportunity that Tucker had been after he unveiled the dream of making the Tucker Torpedo. This was a very incredible car that was not like the other cars in the market. He was very optimistic about this idea and opportunity that even his family and friends subscribed to the idea with utmost enthusiasm. This opportunity succeeds since Tucker was able to pass his idea to a great financier, Abe. The movie indicates the fact that he several units were made. Mr. Tucker’s idea failed severally on various occasion deterring his dream and opportunity. The firs occasion when the idea was deemed to fail is when the three largest car companies in Detroit wanted to squash Tucker. The biggest failure of this great idea and opportunity is when Tucker realized that he is no longer the owner of the company. Tucker’s naivety had cost him an opportunity of owning a car company that was meant to transform the world. Tucker did not read the terms of the contract when Benington came on board. This failure if avoided could have saved Tucker’s qualms and misfortunes in the future. 2. The team A holistic team is very crucial for the success of any project. To some extent the team that was involved in the making process of this car is holistic. Tucker was a charismatic leader with the intensive prowess of the corporate arena. Abe Karatz was a key individual that would make sure that that Tucker’s idea is achieved by ensuring it gets the right finance needed. Benington was the next person on the team that would manage the company though he had a point it was him that contribute to the abolishment of Tucker’s ownership in the company. The other key individual in the team was Alex, an automotive engineer he was chosen because of his exceptional skills in the automotive sector. 3. The financing Financing is a very fundamental issue that can determine whether a project will fail or succeed. Tucker’s idea was not different; he had difficulty to raise the required finances to kick start the project. This was when he decided to bring Abe on board to help with finance issues. After forming the team, he had sixty days to come up with a prototype of the Tucker. There was difficulty in making the prototype since he had no $ 15 million needed to build the prototype. Lack of finances was a major hurdle that deterred and delayed the process of making Tucker. 4. The organizational structure Organization structure is a factor that contribute to the success of any idea that need to be implemented. The organization structure should be solid enough, such that the exit of any executive member doesn’t affect the running of the organization. The organization structure of Tucker was such that Mr. Tucker was the chairperson, Benington the chief executive, Abe the Financial Manager, Alex the head of operations, and employees. Each department within the structure is very important in enhancing the success of the business. The organization structure failed since some individuals were too greedy though it succeed since the organization made Truckers. 5. The Marketing Marketing is an important aspect of designing the Tuckers so as to ensure that their adequate market when the vehicles were finally designed. Tucker conducted some market analysis to identify market potential and to publicize his idea so that more people are aware of the product. He surveyed the market by running an article in the ‘Pic’ magazine. The article highlighted the Torpedo with the caption, “Don’t let the future pass you by” and was a completely necessary and impactful method of market assessment which showed Tucker that there was potential market for his invention. In response to this marketing strategy, the family received more than 150,000 feedbacks as an indication that the public loved the Tucker’s sleek, futuristic design. To secure a post-war factory in Chicago for the production of Tuckers, Tucker shows persuading prowess in the real corporate world when he tries to prove that the Tucker is the safest car. To push his point, he uses very gruesome pictures of fatalities and serious injuries, which eventually give him the permission to buy the factory. He demonstrates strategic marketing skills by advertising his product in the New York Stock Exchange so as to establish a strong brand name and gain popularity. Tucker believes in his prototype very much that, unfortunately, he makes promises about a car that does not exist. Although he shows great marketing skills, lying to get people to believe in his dream results in a chain of problems for him. 6. The Business Operations One of the most important strengths that Tucker had was his passion and unwavering confidence in his brand. Although financing was a constant struggle for him, he still believed that he would build his car. Through his charisma, persistence, and optimism, he gets the right people to trust in his dream and finance him and Abe to carry on with him dream. Tucker recognizes that for his brand to be successful, he need to get a popular and powerful manager to handle the management operations. A reputable manager was necessary for the success of the company as it get them the reputation and credibility that was strong enough to encourage prospective customers to purchase the Tucker automobile. Benington, a classic high-ranking manager, was chosen as the manager. However, Tucker demonstrates to be a naïve entrepreneur when he agrees to sign a contract with him without reading it, even though he already had a bad feeling about him. It was a great weakness that cost him the ownership of the company he founded. Tucker’s persistence, charm, and hard work remains consistent throughout the whole film, even when he had lost the control of his company and had to serve time in jail, he never loses hope that soon his dream would be fulfilled. It is these qualities that inspire people and drive them to ensure fulfillment of his dream. He vowed never to allow the big three to destroy his dream. Even while in jail, his workers never stopped working on the cars for the trust they had in him. 7. Conclusion This film is a complete testament of the entrepreneurial journey of Tucker, given that he was able to build fifty Tuckers before the big three managed to fail him. His charisma and optimism are more than all the other characters combined. In the midst of financial challenges as well as the big three, who want the production of the cars stopped, he manages to see his dream come true. He has the benefit of a highly dedicated team that shares in his dream and works towards achieving it even while he is in jail. Tucker operates his company with profound passion, which reveals that he is a great salesperson and marketer. However, he can be described as a naïve entrepreneur who trusts easily and ends up losing his company. For a good entrepreneur that he is, lying to people to sell his car is not a good strategy as it could hurt his company’s reputation in the long run.
