Married Life in Islam - Essay Example

 Parents choose a spouse, and the choice of a partner is a result of the father's approval or that of Maliki school guardian. Taqwa is also one of the basic conditions of a successful marriage in the Islamic world: it means piety which is reflected in the possibility of women and men to see each other with the purpose to determine critically whether they suit each other or not. Taqwa is also determined as the fear of Allah and distinct communication between husbands and wives. Husband and wife should express truthfulness and straightforwardness to each other: they should say the truth and be able to express their ideas strait and with mutual consent.

Love and mercifulness of the spouses should be the basis for a successful marriage in Islamic traditions, as they take a very important place in the Qur'an. The main positions and roles of Islamic wife are to be obedient, to be attractive and to be a good mother; she should cover her face and not show it to other men. The main positions and roles of the husband are to be a leader of his family and to support his wife, as the Qur'an says that men are the supporters of women (4:34). The ideal is a traditional family, but the Qur'an allows men to have a family of four wives (4:3).

It is allowed in case of extraordinary situations: wars, famine and some others. Extended family also includes many other family members, such as spouses' parents and elder brothers - it helps them to manage with selfishness and guards against it, and this situation is normal. The Qur'an says that husband and wife are garments for each other (2:187). Garments mean love, protection, warmth, and comfort, and the best garment, according to the Qur'an, is garment of God-consciousness (7:26). Parents should love and be strict but fair to their children, while children should be obedient and care for their parents when they will be old.

If there are non-Muslim children, parents should try to incline them towards Islam, and they should be obedient to their parents. In the family, man is fully responsible for the family income and expenditure, while a woman's income is her own to dispose of. Lawful ways to bring happiness to the family are to revere the Qur'an, to respect each other and to care of each other. Status of old parents and other elders in the family is rather high, and younger family members should respect and care for older ones.

So, the life in extended families helps their members to manage the anger, ego, and selfishness: the members of such family should look after each other and respect other members' desires and needs. So, Islam marriage and family traditions are linked with  the Qur'an which is the main source of law and truth.
