Eastern and Western Wear:There are innumerable differences between Eastern and Western wear for girls. Although both types of outfits look extremely elegant and charming when worn according to the occasion, yet Eastern outfits are more girlish and reflect the femininity more profoundly than the Western outfits do. This paper discusses some of the points of comparison between the Western and Eastern outfits for women. Eastern outfits for girls conventionally come as kameez shalwar and dupatta or saree.
These are the two basic types of Eastern outfits for girls. On the contrary, Western outfits for girls mainly comprise pant with shirt and skirt with blowse. These are the two basic types of Western outfits that are meant for girls. Eastern outfits define the gender in a better manner than Western outfits. Pants are worn with shirts both by men and women. In fact, pant shirt is specifically meant for men at least in the Eastern perspective. Whereas Eastern outfits for girls are meant only for girls.
Men in the East can not and do not wear sarees. Although they do wear kameez shalwar, yet there is no dupatta with the men’s kameez shalwar. Also, there is a great deal of difference between the texture, design, color and fabric of the kameez shalwar worn by women and that worn by the men in the East. Women wear silky and shiny fabric, colors are darker and designs are mostly based on flowers. On the other hand, men’s kameez shalwar are mostly made in cotton, and are plain without any sort of design on it.
Also, colors worn by men in the East are very limited and come in the shades of white, grey, black and blue. Women in the East wear dresses with more prints and embroidery than women in the West. Most dresses worn by women in the West are plain and without any prints on them. There is little to no embroidery at all in the Western outfits of women. In the West, women may cover their heads with scarves or hats unlike most of the Eastern women, that cover their heads with shawls or dupattas. On the other hand, Eastern outfits for women are full of embroidery and flowery prints.
Corners and borders of the kameez and dupattas are lined with embroidered beads. This makes the kameez shalwar suitable for wearing in special occasions as wedding ceremonies or birthday parties. Western outfits for women are more revealing as compared to the Eastern outfits. The Western clothes come in deep necks and the mini skirts cover the legs up to the knees. In comparison to the Western outfits, Eastern clothes do not reveal the skin much. This particular feature makes the Western and Eastern outfits the traits of Western and Eastern cultures respectively.
In many Eastern countries, particularly Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran and India, women are not allowed to reveal bare skin except for their face, neck, hands and feet, though in many parts, there is no limitation at all. On the contrary, in most of the Western countries, there are no such restrictions upon women.
