Extract of sample "Interest and Motivation in Writing"

While in elementary school, reading and writing were still interesting to me, and I found the activity quite satisfying.

Of course, at this stage, writing is not extraordinarily engaging, but the concept of transferring stories to a sheet of paper was excellent. Also, the idea of telling this story to the entire class was again for me as I could express my life happenings, or be creative about it in my paper. These instances of creating compelling stories on paper made a personal connection with composition. I have always been curious and having spotted a dusty book at the library, a took the initiative to find out more. And to my surprise, the covers were so compelling, and the one I picked, "The Hardy Boys, The Tower Treasure," captured my eye. The book had a bold cover, something that struck me.

Stunned by Two Boys on a Cover

"The Hardy Boys, The Tower Treasure," the firm, attractive, and well-detailed cover read as I struggled to wipe the dust off the book. The boys on the hardcover of the book looked young, quite close to my age, sparking more interest in the work. And that is how I became a fan of the Hardy Boys collection. After I read the first paper, I found that day, I couldn't resist the urge to try others in the group, and during that time, it was what I mostly read.

Developing a Reading Culture via the Sports Section

I developed a reading culture from a tender age because of the following habits:

  • Reading the entire sports sections of magazines. As weird as it may seem, the content in the sports paper always attracted my attention.
  • Developing an interest in mature literature. This interest even grew to overcome my love for any ordinary book that was more appropriate for my age.
  • Spotting new words from the literature I perused. Over time, I had so much sports vocabulary than any other person my age would have and probably even more than some older people.

You see, my father was a sports fanatic, and he used to read numerous sports magazines. Out of this habit, I was reading some of his magazines, building my sports vocabulary every day.

High School Work and Transition in Writing

Unfortunately, my motivation in composing started to dwindle when I reached middle school, and it was hard for me to handle any literacy narrative essay. During this time, I was mostly obligated to work on a book that was not interesting. Therefore, I started to avoid reading any assigned book, and the distant feeling persisted through high school. But high school was one of the most challenging times in my composing career as I had one of the most authoritarian teachers for all the subjects I took.

These were challenging moments as Mrs. McCullough did not consider failure an option. She ascertained that all of her students achieved one hundred percent all the time. Since English was one of my most-hated subjects, I faced a challenging moment trying to cope. Every moment I turned in a paper that she thought was below my capabilities, she made sure that she informed me of her opinion, thereby motivating me to work harder to produce better. Fortunately, it worked, and I ended up passing the English class mostly because of the effort and encouragement of Mrs. McCullough.

Even though I faced a great challenge with literature and reading for a big moment, I was fond of Math and was highly interested in the language. I have always been great at Math, and over the years, I have found many ways to comprehend the terms associated with it. At a particular moment during my studies, my classmates were trying to work on the AP Statistics problem with a complicated sentence. It was hard for someone that was not in my class to comprehend the terminologies in the paper, and since it is a topic whereby I can speak fluently, it was a walk in the park.

In the secondary I attended, seniors were required to create a compelling exit paper that was worth forty percent of their final grade. The topic for the paper was abortion; the writer was obligated to express their stance. Even though I did not find a hard time composing papers before, this one required serious work and dedication. And the paper was assigned by the tough Mrs. McCullough, who was not a fan of a mediocre paper. She was perfectly suited for the job since she had graded numerous documents over the years and knew exactly what grade every paper deserved. This final paper allowed me to take a personal approach, different from how I was composing other pieces in the past. The entire process assisted me in overcoming my struggle to create a fantastic college paper.

Overcoming Literacy Struggles

Literacy is a broad subject and possesses various approaches. Sometimes, I am aware of what I want to state but cannot find the most appropriate way of composing it. This is a common struggle in the literacy world. Numerous professionals have the capability of practically showing you something, but it would be hard if you were to read about it by yourself. Literacy will always be as long as people want to correspond.
