It was late night and as she stared at the window she could see the rain falling on the glass panes. She could not sleep as her mind is restless and as always she was dreaming of her parents. Sharon was only 8 years old when she ended up in this orphanage and now six months have passed but she could not sleep peacefully since she lost her parents. She remembers that day when she woke up in hospital bed with a broken leg and head desperately in pain. All she saw was some strange people around her who she did not recognize. She could barely see and her head was heavy and aching and could not move because of broken body. As days passed by Sharon could see and move body lightly. Ever since Sharon was searching for her parents but could not ask anyone. Once she could talk she was already in an orphanage where she was surrounded by nuns and other children. As she woke up that morning she started crying and calling her mother’s name. The nuns were paranoid and did not know what to do and as she cried they consoled her. She slept in pain and then as days moved by she could only dream of her parents and spend sleepless night. She asked everybody around her about her parents and all she could hear was emptiness. Sharon had no friends as she did not talk to anyone but only looked at sky and wept. Her eyes started to close and she slipped in to sleep and as she woke up it was late. After her breakfast, she stepped to the ground and moved gently towards the gate. She was watching as the gate open and waited around to see the best chance to get out. Suddenly the gate opened, the big vegetable truck was coming and she slided trickily outside the gate. She felt she was free, the fresh air and out of the four walls, Sharon started walking fast and soon she started to run. She was tired soon and then sat on a bench in the park. She wanted to look for her mother and father. But where she can find them and as she pondered through the garden, her heart was pounding. It was getting warm and she was dehydrated and soon hunger started to kick in and Sharon felt tired and out of mind. Sharon started to look for food; soon she was looking at a bakery and watching all the delicacies through the glass pane. She was standing there for more than one hour and the shop keeper was feeling sympathy. He offered her a glass of milk and a pastry. She was gorging on it and within few minutes she has finished eating. As she started walking towards the lane she could feel her leg pain and she was tired enough to fall. It is evening and the night is getting colder and Sharon could feel the fear creeping on her. She could not find a place to sleep and she found a group of dogs coming near her she ran fast. She was running as fast as she could and she could move no more and collapsed. The dogs just ran past her and as she shivered she could feel the cold breeze hitting her bone and started to cry deeply. She walked towards the bus stand and slept on the floor, suddenly she could feel as wind is hitting her face and she could feel strong arms on her body. She soon realized someone was carrying her and was petrified. She tried to scream and he clasped her mouth with his heavy fist. He took her to a room and switched on the light and tied her to the bed. She was scared to death as he moved to light a cigarette. He took a syringe and took her hands and tried to inject her and Sharon started to scream. As the needle pierced her arm all she could know was her head feeling heavy and she soon fainted. When she woke up it was early in the morning and the man was in kitchen. He came towards her and started brushing his hands on her thighs. She was so intimidated and could not move. He slowly caressed her body and chest and neck and tears was flowing from her eyes. He moved close to her and stared at her and then went away to have breakfast. He left her to toilet and after she came she was offered bacon, eggs and bread. Sharon was hungry but was depressed enough to not taste the food. But she ate a bit and as she moved he pulled her and chained her to the chair. She was suffocated and now she missed her orphanage and people who cared for her. She saw the man walking out of the door and she struggled to untie her hand but all her attempt went in vain. As he cried, her eyes felt heavy and she fell asleep. Suddenly the banging of the door awoke her and she could see the man in front of her. He came close and kissed her cheek and she started trembling with fear. The man walked towards the fridge and took a beer bottle and started drinking and pours some in to Sharon’s mouth. She could feel the bitterness and wanted to spit it out but he forced some beer through her throat. She started crying and the man pulled a knife and threatened to kill her. As she cried he left to the table and pulled some white powder and sniffed it. She could see his eyes getting red and he stood up and pulled the food bag and offered her food. Sharon refused to eat and he opened her mouth and stuffed some potato chips in her mouth. And the man moved to the table and started filling his mouth with burger and chips in greediness. Suddenly he received a call and he rushed out of the door and she could see something fell out of his pocket. And she noticed the man did not lock the door but only closed it. She fell on the floor and started moving slightly until she reached the knife. She fell on the knife on back and grabbed the knife and with some effort she cut her rope. She just got up and rushed out of the room and she saw the man was standing at other end and looking out and talking on phone. She rushed downstairs and as it we morning she ran swiftly to the road. She saw a woman sitting on the bench on the road side and started crying desperately. The woman held her hand and she started crying more intensely and hugged her. The woman was pitiful and asked her what was wrong. As she told her story, the woman took her by hand and led her to home. It was warm and Sharon felt better and the woman offered her hot chocolate. Sharon drank it with desperately and she was then invited to lunch. The table was filled with chicken, bread, soup, vegetable casserole and cake. Sharon started to eat food as if she was hungry for days. She was so tired and as she ate she could see the women caressing her head and she felt the warmth of her care. She got off the table and went to wash her hand and then she was as tired as she retired to seat. The woman led her to bed and she cozily slept for hours. When she woke up it was next day morning and she knew it was time to ask this woman to help her. She told her that she wants to meet her parents and wanted the woman to help her. She sobbed as she talked to her and the woman consoled her that she would her. They both were soon driving to a police station and the office was asking about the details of her mother and father. She then explained she met with an accident while she was travelling with her parents. The police office soon worked on his computer and showed her the faces of some people. And she could see her father and mother among them and started to cry painfully. Sharon said she wanted to see them and she started to grab the woman’s hand. Now the man talked to the woman something and then the women grabbed her hand and walked out of the station. She drove to the house and asked Sharon to have some milk and cookies. Sharon was in shock and refused to eat. She asked the woman about her parents and all she got was a smile from the woman. She started looking at her and then the woman told her that her parents are fine and they are in sky. Sharon could not understand what the woman meant but she kept hugging her. She was then soon taking her to table to serve her food. She then touched the glass window and looked at sky. And the woman came towards her and told her that her parents are in heaven. Now she understood that dead go to heaven and her parents are no longer alive. Next morning as she woke up she could hear the voice from television and as she walked to the dining room, she saw her picture on the screen. She was scared and she walked to the toilet and closed the door behind her. She could only feel the loneliness and emptiness around her. As she looked in the mirror, she could hear the bang on the door. When she opened she could see the woman with the cell phone in her hand. She knew she was going to orphanage. She was feeling scared and she changed her clothes she had no clue what to do. The woman called her and they were slowly walking to the car. As she looked around, she wondered when she would travel like this again. They stopped in front of the gate of the orphanage. Sharon looked at the woman sympathetically and suddenly she could feel the car moving forward and she was confused what the woman’s intention was. As Sharon turned her head she could hear noise all around her and it was dark. She was scared and when she got up the lights were on and she could see the woman in front of her and all the people she knew since years. Tonight was a big night, the woman who gave her motherly hand in 10 years back is again looking at her with all warmth and affection. Sharon could not believe she was 18 years old and rushed to hug the women, her mother, her everything. She remembers the day when she was begging her for help and how with affection her mother carried her to room. She knew her mother but she knew this woman better than her mother. “I am not an orphan, I have a mother, and I have a family” she whispered in her mind. She knew a woman was always a mother, the kindness, warmth, gentleness and affection is always deep down in her. She knew only by giving birth one cannot be a mother but by loving a child she can be a better mother As she hugged her mother, she could see the image of her mother who died long ago. She looked at sky and smiled to understand the miracle of God. She kissed her mother and grabbed the gift she had in her hand. She opened it and could see the beautiful dress and felt how lucky was her to have a mother who cared for her so much. She knew she was a dear daughter to the lonely woman who found life after meeting her as she found a mother in her. Read More
