My Interview Experience The person I chose to interview for this assignment was William Lee Anthony. His address is 2 Inverness Drive East, Suite 201, Englewood, CO 80112. His number is (303) 779-2520. He is the Principal Petroleum Consultant at Apex Petroleum Engineering. He is a man in his early 40s with a great deal of experience in this field. In the beginning, I was somewhat nervous about conducting this interview as I didnt know too much about getting good answers from people in the course of discussions.
But I did a bit of research and found that one of the most effective methods of conducting interviews is to ask open questions. These are questions that cannot be answer using “yes” or “no” but require the person to explain their opinion or perspective. I felt more confident once I chose to use this method of interviewing for Mr. Anthony. I have been interested in petroleum engineering for some time, and Mr. Anthony told me what a rewarding field it can be. Energy is what drives the economy, and the cheaper and cleaner the energy the better off America will be.
As we spoke I began to realize how important this job truly is. He spoke with a real enthusiasm about his time at Apex and the kind of projects he works on. He spoke about his time preparing field reports on a number of projects throughout the mid-west. He was very encouraging to me. He said that petroleum engineering was a wonderful career. There are many opportunities to take advantage of in the field. In the course of the interview, we discussed a number of contemporary issues. Mr. Anthonys perspective on these was very valuable to me.
I began to see things in a new light. For example, we spent some time discussing Americas reliance on foreign oil and the political consequences of this. Mr. Anthony explained to me how the governments of the Middle East have too much control over the price of oil and how the U.S. is constantly having to be involved in that region in order to ensure oil supply. He told me how we should shift our energy trading to focus more on Canada which is a friendly, democratic country with lots of oil. He believed that the future of Americas energy policy was north of America.
He also talked about drilling in the Alaska Wildlife Reserve as a way of getting cheaper oil. There is a way to do this, he said, without hurting any animals. He was very convincing. I found the arguments he made were very persuasive. This interview was a valuable experience for me. In the past, I did more of my learning about this subject by reading a textbook. There was a lot of theory involved. By talking to Mr. Anthony I was able to understand how that theory works in practice. He was very outgoing and happy to talk to me, and the stories he shared with me really opened my eyes to petroleum engineering and how important it is to America.
In the future, this is the field I want to pursue.
