College Kitchen Aid Opener 7.e Introduction Product dissection is used to provide the with various information regarding fabrication, project components and costs. This is done by looking at various products that are in the market by disassembling and reassembling the products. Some of the products include everyday items such as knives, kettles and electric kettles just to mention a few. Student who are in their first year of study have used this tool of study in their introduction to engineering and even project implementation. This paper elaborates a kitchen product that we use as an opener to various kitchen products. Various methods and criteria have been used to evaluate all the products that were of the same purpose as the product and which were considered its main competitors. All the products are compared based on how they function, how common they are to the people, the materials used in their manufacture and how they are assembled. After all this, the advantages and disadvantages of each product is compared with other products to know which one of them was the best. The other thing looked at is the product size, its shape, weight, and ease of assembly and durability. 7.h In this project product benchmarking was used to asses’ competitors. During the benchmarking, the following steps ensure that relevant results are obtained. The first step was to identify each product to benchmark. The product had to have some significant similarities with our product. Their functionality had to be similar. Two competitor products were identifies in this research. Zylis safe edge can opener and swing A-way can opener. After identifying the products, we went on to collect relevant data and information through sampling, observation, use of questioners and interviewing various product manufacturers and users. After the data collection, it analyzed by various methods to look at the best performing product and the product which came out as the best competitor to our product. Our main reference point is the use of the product and if it relates to the use of our product, which in all cases is rather the same. I.e. all the products chosen are open cans. The materials used were also a reference point of choosing the product to benchmark since materials really determine the prices of each product. Some materials make the products more expensive as compared to others. 7. j Zyliss safe edge can opener This opener is made by zylis an internationally respected company. is made from rubber. It operates from the can top and not at the sides. This makes the container to be more balanced and not spill and liquid that comes from the can. The lid does not fall into the food thereby making it more hygienic. Advantages 1. The lid does not fall into the food therefore this makes the opener to be more hygienic. 2. It grips and easily removes the lid without any jagging edges. 3. It is not heavy hence portable and not tiresome to carry around Disadvantages 1. It is expensive compared to the kitchen aid opener 2. It is hand wash only therefore a lot of work when cleaning Swing A-way can opener This opener is made from metal. It comes with a 5 year warranty and is readily available in the market. It opens bottles with speed as compared to the other openers. Advantages 1. It is durable as compared to the kitchen aid opener 2. It is less expensive due to the product that is used in its manufacture 3. It is portable and one can move with it around the kitchen. Disadvantages 1. It is not hygienic. It drops the can top into the food. 2. It is not attractive in terms of shape as compared to the kitchen aid opener Screw It is made of metal which is of low to medium steel wire or stainless steel,brass and alluminium alloy.
