Download file to see previous pages PVC is highly unstable and therefore it requires stabilization which can be done in several ways. One of the common ways is prevention of dehydrochlorination. This process involves the addition of other compounds like metal oxides in order to stop or slow dehydroclorination.
Most of the commercially available PVC is understood to be anamorphous glass like polymer that has crystalline structure. These crystallites are made up of few monomers that are arranged syndiotactically. As such, the appearance appears to be flowing grains that has primary aggregates embedded in them. It is often claimed that there are sub-primary particles embedded in the flowing grains but this has remained controversial. The PVC’s phase structure combines with several compounds such as chlorinated polyethylene (CPE), ethylene-vinylacetate copolymer (EVA) and acrylo-nitrile-butadiene rubber (NBR). This phase is predicated upon compatibility as well as process temperature and blending during mechanical blending. An increase of the temperature during mechanical processing of PVC to levels higher than the critical levels recommended for first degree particle fusion leads to shift. The shift leads to an inversion whereby there is a higher rubber content with 30% being non ...Download file to see next pagesRead More

.... A biocompatible material allows the body to function without complications such as allergic reaction or even other adverse effects. Biocompatible plastic and fluoropolymers These plastics are used in the manufacture of medical devices. These plastics include polyvinylchloride (PVC), polytetraflouroethylene (PTFE), polyeathersulfone (PES), and polysulfone amongst others. On the other hand fluoropolymers are also used in medical applications such as in single lumen tubing, heat shrink tubing and in special profiles. Many of these two have a wide range of applications and have good compatibility profiles. Their use is increasing because of their cost effectiveness. Steel and metal biocompatibility...

...ENVIRONMENTAL AND OCCUPATIONAL EPIDEMIOLOGY INTRODUCTION The community under epidemiological investigation has been exposed to manyenvironmental contaminants including Bis-Chloromethyl Ether, Benzene, Dichloroethane, Styrene, Vinyl chloride (VC), Polyvinylchloride (PVC) and Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAH). The present study aims to investigate the carcinogenicity of three of these contaminants namely Bis-Chloromethyl ether, Benzene and Styrene. Investigation: Epidemiological studies show that approximately 15% of lung cancers in men and 5% of lung cancers in women are caused by such environmental exposures. As per the rating system based on animal and human data by The International Agency for...

Polyvinylchloride Contraversy
...PVC Controversy PVC Controversy Polyvinylchloride (PVC) is a tough and rigid synthetic thermoplastic used extensively across the world. PVC remains unique among other thermoplastics owing to its high ability to withstand high temperatures. It has superior fire performance relative to other polymers. The synthesis of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is done using free-radical polymerization of Vinyl Chloride Monomer (VCM), which is the primary material from which PVC is manufactured. The major raw materials for the synthesis of VCM include oil, natural gas and salt. Ethylene and propylene among others are usually obtained through thermal cracking of naphtha, which is usually supplied from oil used by petroleum refinery industry (PVC, n.d... ). In the...

What are the effects of chemicals on children
.... explore the influence of PVC on children`s organism, which turned out to be extremely negative. In the research, a number of items made of vinyl chloride were tested. The list included childcare products, furniture pieces, and household items. All the products were tested for phthalate plasticisers and heavy metal stabilisers including organotins. Excessive amount of phthalates and heavy metals (cadmium and lead) was revealed in toys and other PVC products made specially for kids. Toys, nevertheless, constitute only partial amount of PVC products, and such items as windows and floors constitute the major part (Stringer & Johnston 2001). It is obviously expected that children contact...

...) such as formaldehyde that is considered as, a likely human carcinogen. These materials used in conventional building mainly lead to poor quality of indoor air that eventually causes “cancer, and reproductive and development effects, and are manifested in thousands of cancer deaths and hundreds of thousands of respiratory health problems.”56 Another harmful material that is usually used in conventional building is polyvinylchloride (PVC). The concerned material emits extremely toxic hydrogen chloride gases courting any accidental combustion of the same. Again “In addition, exposure to PVC can lead to exposure to the host of hazardous compounds used as additives in PVC...

Car belt design
...Car belt design Car belt design Car belt are carefully designed to ensure the user safety. All the parameters arecarefully selected and ensured that no parameters like belt length, elasticity, friction, locking mechanism becomes out. Now a day car belts are manufactured with artificial nylon, carbon based rubber and other artificial fibres to ensure its long life, durability and safety. In order to replace the nylon or PVC material in the car belts, there is a need to focus on the alternatives. Poly lactic acid (PLA) belts can easily replace the currently used nylon material that is commonly used in car belts. PLA material is bio plastic material that is mostly sourced from the bio materials having sugars in the form of...
