Is a Australian and international Company that offers low fat smoothies, freshly squeezed juices, booster and boost snacks , dairy free crushes and protein smoothies. The company headquarters are based on Chadstone, Australia, it was founded in the year 2000 and it also has a number of stores across Australia as well a Retail Zoo pty Ltd which it as well operates (Allis 2015, p.3). This paper therefore aims to review the entrepreneur behind the creation of Boost Juice Company and the motivation and inspiration that led her to create this company. Back ground of the entrepreneur Janine was born and raised in Melbourne and the founder of the founder of Boost Juice Pty Ltd, growing up, one of her many dreams was to own a business. Her success is not attributed to academics; she was an average student in her class. Jeff, her husband is the Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of Boost juice; Janine treasures and values her family and friends so much. She is 50 years old and a loving mother of 4 kids. Janine Allis refers to her teenage life as quite average. Reason being, she was not a student who performed well academically, and most times she used to refer to herself as “miss average”. She went to a technical college however she later dropped out a few months before her 17th birthday (Allis 2013, n.d). She later went into employment where she worked for an estimated 30 jobs before finally venturing into her own business (Redrup 2013, p.5). Some of the jobs that Janine Allis did as highlighted in her book The Secrets of My Success and the Story of Boost Juice which include; advertising agency, modeling, and finally a six year overseas adventure where she claims to have developed the idea which she turned to an iconic business in Australia. Janine Allis the founder of Boost Juice had the idea of starting a juice bar in Australia when she was working as a backpacker in the late 90s in San Francisco under David Bowie’s Yacht. Nonetheless, Allis’ idea came while she was on a trip to the US when she witnessed Juice and smoothie stores coming up in the US and liked the idea. Consequently, on her return to Australia she noticed that there was a notable niche in the market for health fast food choices (Menzies and Orr 2014, pp.175-197). She then dived into extensive research on the best business concept to take up which was distinct from those she has seen in the US market. Janine Allis was keen to “do retailing differently”, therefore she sought for a concept that would deliverer a unique customer experience which is based on the philosophy of “love life” Janine being a young woman her new venture was specifically driven by her passion for health snacks and the need for feeding on her newly born snacks which were healthy. Fast forward, seventeen years later her passion has translated into over $2.5 billion in the company’s global sales (Marinos, 2017). Janine claims that she has now become an accomplished entrepreneur who is also skillful who now has an eye for smart deals as well as experience to back it up. Process of opportunity recognition Janine appeared in Shark Tank television show where businesses seek for funding from venture capitalists by pitching their ideas and business concepts to them. Moreover, on the American trip she got a good number of ideas that she later on implemented in her company (Menzies & Orr 2014, p.187). Janine’s naturally warm leadership style and exceptional customer service skills contributed a lot in her company’s success through creation of a high performance culture in the company as well as leading to a series of amazing success which entail; Amex Retailer of the year, the top fifteen business environment changer as named by BRW in the year 2015 and Telstra Business Women of the Year (Allis, 2015, p.5). Driven by her husband’s passion to expand their local Australian market while the business was starting off, they utilized its solid foundation in Australian which enabled its venture into other markets and helped in creation of unique products which enabled the company to maximize its growth potential (Sherborne 2008, p.17). The company started off with the Salsas Fresh Mex Grill store later on purchased four stores and since then this number has grown to an estimated 50 stores in the Austlaria market alone. Her determination pushed her to create a subsidiary under the Boost Juice called the Retail Zoo. Moreover, her determination also drove her to acquire CIBO Espresso, an Italian espresso franchise bar which has been in Adelaide market for an estimated 17 years (Tan, and Smyrnios 2011, p.53). This company was associated with a strong simple and pleasurable Italian lifestyle and it had a quite substantial reputation in this market due to its quality food and coffee and stylistic bar setting hence a perfect match for Boost juice. Janine argues that her entrepreneurial eye enabled her see this as the best subsidiary to adopt under her company brand. Thus, Boost Juice adopted CIBO Espresso’s 30 stores in Adelaide and the one in NSW and another in QLD (Janine Allis, 2013). Type of business developed and competitive advantage Through her leadership skills, Janine has been able to lead the 7000 employees working across her four company’s stores that were under the holding company Retail Zoo. Currently this company has an estimated 540 stores which are estimated to be over $2 billion in value. Her leadership style helped Boost juice to expand to over 15 countries outside Australia (Allis 2015, p.11). Aside from entrepreneurship Janine is also a mother of four. She acknowledges that the entrepreneurial life could be quite hectic especially due to the firsthand demands of this career. However, Janine believes that it is important for people to live by a healthy lifestyle hence the need for people to choose boost juice over other sugary juices. Janine loves Yoga and has a strict five-day-a-week yoga practice as well as constancy surfing and playing tennis to help her keep fit (Marinos 2017, p.2). Janine’s exceptional customer care services and a need to respond to customer queries on a timely manner drives the company’s employees to offer excellent after sales services, a norm that most organizations lack (Sherborne 2008, p.19). Often, she argues that a huge part of her success could be drawn from on how well she built her organizations team and the moral support offered by her family. Thus, she claims that Boost Juice would have found it impossible to take off in the Australian market if she has hired the wrong group of employees (Allis 2015, p.21). Janine knows the importance of attitude and in most cases she draws some on her life experiences whenever emphasizing this issue and its impact on the overall productivity of Boost Juice. She believes that one might not be the most educated, qualified or intelligent person but they might have the required twinkle in their eyes and drive which would be the integral part of their success. Besides, Janine emphasizes that most key attributes can be taught but attitude seemingly cannot be taught. Nevertheless, boost juice is not a monopoly, yet; being a healthy juice producer it’s more of a monopoly in that segment in the juice industry. Boost utilizes technological applications to gain a competitive advantage over its rivals as well as treating customers as kings having that Janine herself is a principal when it comes to good communication skills (Basu & Penugonda 2009, p.51). Future suggestions Boost juice should get a new private-equity partner in an effort to foster the company valuation. Having that the company is in talks with other private equity-partners like Bain capital in a deal that would see them taking up the company (Eloise Keating, 2016). Janine and her company can work towards ensuring smooth adaption of the organizations franchise model and system to fit the regions which the company’s expansion is concentrated on. The organization is focused on being on the forefront of the smoothies and juice marker globally and thus new strategies are needed in order to help it penetrate wider markets and still remain profitable for instance the Boost’s should focus on concept sites and adaptation of menus that are suitable for the cold and hot climates (Basu and Penugonda 2009, pp.49-56).Ideas like fresh organic vegetables is an opportunity Janine should take up having that most people are looking for healthy food in this century. With a product like this, boost can capture a market comprised of older people looking for healthier but tasty foods. Further it can incorporate healthy and sugarless Ice creams and yogurt in its product portfolio to enable it establish more niches and capitalize on them. With its expansion into Asia, the company has currently put up an estimated 16 stores in this region and it on schedule to open four stores in Malaysia, one in Singapore and three in china. Boost juice can establish factories in china to help it cut on the overall costs its products by utilizing the cheap labour available there. This will increase its sales in this region to an estimated $131 million (23%) as well as also achieve sustainable growth for the organization in its expansion projects (Allis, n.d.). Conclusion Boost Juice’s success is attributed to the vision and resilience of Janine who has impeccable entrepreneurship skills of turning an idea to an iconic business in Australia and now venturing into the global market. Janine’s success is based on her family’s support as well as an exceptional team of employees that has contributed to the success of her company. she claims that she was focused on choosing the right employees who would help the company grow gradually. Moreover, the company also is seemingly seeking to grow its success scale by looking for niches and ideas which it can maximize on to give it a competitive advantage over its competitors.
