It can also be referred to as Corporate Philanthropy, Corporate Giving, Corporate Citizenship, Corporate Community Involvement, Corporate Community Relationship, Corporate Responsibility, Corporate Social Marketing, Corporate Community Development, Community Affairs, and Global Citizenship (Kotler and Lee, 2005, 2). CSR is a concept with a growing currency globally and often interacts with similar concepts such as corporate sustainability, corporate sustainable development, corporate responsibility, and corporate citizenship.

The purpose of this paper is to determine the perception of job applicants towards CSR in organizations represented by third-year business students and how it influences the decisions of job applicants.

The paper is made up of the introduction, the research objectives, literature review, research question, methodology, findings and discussions, and conclusions and recommendations. The paper critically evaluates CSR in order to understand its history as well as its significance to firms, for instance, in terms of financial performance. The research focuses on students’ perception of CSR with recognition of the key drivers of the phenomenon, which are:

  • Enlightened self-interest- CSR creates a synergy of ethics and aims at having a unified society and a sustainable global economy in which markets, labour force and communities are in a position to function well mutually.
  • Social investment- there is an aim to contribute to physical infrastructure as well as social capital. This urge has considerably increased the firms’ investment in corporate socials responsibility as a necessary element of carrying out business.
  • Transparency and trust- many businesses have low levels of faith in public perception. Along this line, there is an increasing perception expectation that firms will be more open, ensure more accountability toward the society, and be prepared to deliver public regarding their performance in the environmental and social arenas.
