PART 1 ELEVATOR PITCH My name is…… PART 2: CAREER INSPIRATIONS I describe my life as one which has been influenced by many people. This is due to the effects that the actions of the people have had not only on my personal life but also on the world population and economies at large. The person who inspires my everyday undertaking is Richard Branson. His life is a mirror o what I would love to achieve and undertake in my personal life. This is mostly so because of his level of thinking and entrepreneurship. Some of the achievements that he has made to the world economy are being felt years after he introduced them (Buchanan and Huczynski, 2010). He is the one person who I would dream of meeting in my life despite this being merely or practically impossible. Richard is role model to me. He has helped build in me a degree of self belief and self trust. How he believed in himself despite the poor academic performances that he registered are just an inspiration to me. He makes me believe that it is possible to undertake and achieve things in life if ne has the passion and self belief in himself which will drive him as he forges forward (Cardon, 2014). I have made much progress in my personal life owing to the high degree of self confidence that I have within me. This has all been ingrained within me by the actions and belief that Richard had. PART 3: CAREER ASPIRATIONS In my career plans, I intend to undertake something that will impact to the world t large. This can be either an innovation or an invention that will be beneficial to the whole global population. My current studies are a rung in the ladder of my plans and success route. I believe that by the end of my course, I will be able to have skills that will be useful in my undertakings and in my forging ahead (Cherniss, 2000). The course has not changed my aspirations but has rather equipped me with the required skills to undertake the most things I can. ENTRY 2: SELF ANALYSIS AGAINST INDUSTRY STANDARDS Being mostly in the management industry, there are several industry standards that I need to comply to. Through compliance, I will have a smooth trending and forging in my undertakings. It is expected that people in the management field should have possession of the various values as dictated by the industry of management. Through this, the act of management is made easy. Job ethics represent the values and standards that have been set by the industry (Chrystal and Lipsey 1997). The people who are successful in this should have high degrees of control, planning, leading and organizing. These are instrumental in the seeing to it that the relevant organizations or departments that they manage are successful and efficient in the operations. This is to the better of the economies of the countries. The standards are; A. Integrity – integrity is paramount in the undertaking of my activities. This is where I am expected to undertake all activities with the highest levels of moral uprightness and ethical standards. With this, all the undertakings that I embark on should reflect to the better of the morals of the society (Dwyer, 2005). Integrity is best reflected by the character of an individual. I am therefore expected to portray myself as being a person with great regards to doing the right things as is required of me in the society. Through this, I will be able to carry out my duties with ease and with the support of the community. B. Professionalism – this is where I am expected to carry out my activities and responsibilities with the highest degrees possible of professionalism. I am expected with this to use the highest degrees of skills and expertise in the undertaking of activities that are required of me by the industrial standards (Eunson, 2005). Through the application of all the skills that I have acquired through the studies, I will be able to embark on activities and tasks with the highest levels of professionalism. The impact of this is that the outcome and the quality of the results will be high. C. Competence – competence can be described as the ability of an individual to undertake an activity that has been delegated to him or her successfully and with utmost efficiency. The industry demands that people who embark in management should be able to have the capacity to handle situations effectively and efficiently (Hartman, 2002). This will reflect to the better of the industry. Based on this therefore, I have aligned myself in that I will learn all that is required of me in the course and do further research to see to it that I possess all the attributed that the industry demands, not only because it is a demand but because it will be to my personal benefit. PERSONAL SWOT ANALYSIS A. STRENGTHS – there are several strengths that I possess in the compliance with the industry standards. The first is that I am focused and goal oriented. As a result of this, I quickly learn all the attributes that we are taught and research for more (Hill and Dunbar, 2003). I am also very conversant and well informed of any changes. B. WEAKNESSES – there are however several weaknesses to my compliance. The first is that I currently do not have the best physical experience of management. This makes me not able to make experienced decisions. C. OPPORTUNITIES – growths in companies and organizations and in the placements increases the chances of getting to the practical environment where I will learn though experience (Jackson and McIver, 2001). In this, I will have the chance to make well informed decisions in the future based on the application of what I learn. D. THREATS – several threats exist to the environment and in the compliance with the standards. The first is the changes that are being experienced owing to the technological advancements (Kreitner and Kinicki, 2013). Through this, some things are done electronically and this reduced human effort and hence practical experience of the actual things in the field. An example is the recruitments through LinkedIn network. ENTRY 3: NETWORKING ENTRY 4: CAREER MANAGEMENT PLAN Based on the analysis of my capabilities, I believe that in five years time I will have the ability to land the business development manager job at Perth. This is due to the analysis of the capabilities that I have at the moment and those that I seek to attain in the five years after I graduate (McShane and Travaglione, 2005). Through this, I believe that I will be the top ranked candidate in the job applications. There is however several things that I need to put in place in order to ensure that I am qualified and that I can manage the job successfully. They are as I have pointed out below; a. Improvement of communication skills – communication is vital in any business. This is both oral and verbal communication. I will improve this through first polishing my language. This can be through furthering language studies and practice through such things as reading novels and such. I will also seek to master in another language so as to have an upper hand on the other applicants. The best language to train in will be French based on its vastness in use in the world (Misner and Morgan, 2001). Language proficiency makes one to be able to communicate with ease with the people around him in the business and to understand what they are saying. A business succeeds if only there is a proper communication channel. This is both vertical and horizontal communication. In that case, this cannot take place if there are language barriers or difficulties between the people who are communicating. Improvement of the communication skills will alleviate al the difficulties. b. Sales development – the job description involves the analysis of the sales department of the company. In order to be well versed with the happenings at the department, I will undertake several courses related to sales and marketing. This will improve my ability to make proper and informed sales decisions which will impact to the better of the company. I will also embark on interacting with knowledgeable people in the field of sales and marketing (Parker, 1998). Through interacting with them, I will have an idea of how they think and make decisions that are to the better of their companies. Through this also, I will be able to develop a network and chain whereby I can consult where need be on matters that are beyond my mental capabilities. In such a case as this, the advice that they would offer will be vital in the management of the department assigned to me. c. Experience – I will seek to gather adequate experience in the field of sales and marketing. This can be acquired through a firsthand experience. This can be through engaging other companies on an internship basis for the period after graduation. Through this, I will get the experience that I require to work successfully on my position. Through practical experience also, I will also learn some management attributes namely planning, organizing, leading and controlling (Robbins etal.2006. All these will be instrumental in the seeing to it that I am a qualified and well knowledgeable manager. In the internships and part time jobs that I would seek to embark on, I would focus on all areas of management. Through this, I will be able to understand all the management networks and how they perform. This will boost my capabilities as a manager. d. Professional courses – I can also seek to study professional courses to aid in my ability to understand things. This will also improve the qualities that I will have as a manger. Professional courses also aid in making the resume powerful and stronger than those of the other applicants. In most cases, the recruiters prefer people who have studied other professional courses and certificates in the field as they are more effective and efficient in the field. I believe that this will be instrumental in my case. There are many professional courses that I can study in the field of management (Robbins etal. 2004). Through them, I can be knowledgeable on various factors that I would have knowledge of had I only concentrated on my area of proficiency. Through putting in place the above mentioned factors, I will be able to successfully apply and get the job. This is because all the factors aid in giving me an upper hand over the other applicants and competitors in the job. With landing the job, I will be able to apply the values that I have learnt in school and through research to the better of the firm. B. RESPONSE TO SELECTION CRITERIA a. communication We embarked on an environmental conservation campaign together with my colleagues in a group as a team. The campaign involved working together with people from the ministry of wildlife in a bid to conserve the environment. Based on the high cases of poaching that have been on the rise, we had to write a formal statement and present it to a panel. This was to check the genuineness of the group and the plans that we sought to put in place to see to it that the environment is conserved. The team tasked me with the responsibility to prepare the final draft and present it to the panel. Based on my past experience with such things as this, I prepared the final statement outlining what we intended to do and the conservation measures that we sought to put in place (Seibert etal. 2001). This was in line with the recommendations that we had jointly placed and arrived at with the team members. On the day of the presentation, I presented it to the panel. Based on the fact that it was a competition, communication and fluency was vital. To the utter surprise of everyone in the hall, I was fluent, clear, and audible enough and presented with utmost clarity. This was the main reason behind us winning the award. Through the experience, I learn a lot in regards to communication and how to address people. I believe that this will be vital in my job application. b. organizational ability and initiative The same case of the presentation made me learn a lot in regards to organization and initiative. I was the team leader of the team labeled the Wild Savior. In this, I was charged with the responsibility of determining the best course of action for the team. This was through the creation of goals and prospects that we intended to attain. I personally joined together and allocated roles to the team members based on the abilities of the different people. Those who were good in photography, I allocated them the task of getting the most compelling photos of environmental damage and conservation. The same case applied to all the other groups. Through this, all the people had their duties that they would do as I coordinated and monitored them. This aided in building my organization skills (Standards Australia, 2016). I have as a result of these become good in panning and coordinating activities. In the event that a task was left unattended to, I would personally do it and perfect the areas that needed perfecting. Through this, I developed my initiative abilities, I have been using them ever since and its five years now and counting. It is through this that we attained the goals that we had set and even surpassed them, together as a team. c. interpersonal skills – Two years ago, there was a campaign that was in our locality. The campaign was about the sensitization of the public as to the effects of global warming and the benefits of environmental maintenance. Based on the previous success with the environmental maintenance campaign, I was selected as the head of the campaign in the local area. This, according to me, was a tough task owing to the size of the community with which we live and the diverse nature of the people in the locality. My young age also made me feel like I was inferior to the old and educated people who lived there. I kept this aside and addressed all people fearlessly but respectfully. Old and young, rich and poor, able and disabled, employed and unemployed, civil servants, police officers, teachers, farmers (Strategic Business Network, 2011). They all listened to me. I outlined a framework that I had seen successful in the country of Switzerland. It was on the triple R campaign as in regards to waste management. The Rs denoted reduce, reuse and recycle waste materials for a pollution free environment. With this, all the people applauded me for the plans and we embarked on them. The plan was successful and as a result of this, my locality is one of the tidiest in the country. e. team based working experience Previous experiences have made me become a leader in the community and other programs. I attribute the success that we have achieved in the campaigns to team work. All the groups that I have worked in and that I work in have the attribute of team work. This is where we work together from different angles for a common goal (Uzzi and Dunlap, 2005). A good example of this is the sensitization campaign in our locality. In this, we all undertook different tasks. We split the community into smaller manageable groups that comprised people from all ages and from different walks of life. Through this, we achieved the desired goals. The goal and item that strengthens me in the teams where I am a member is the fact that unity is strength. Through unifying the people and through working together as a one in a team, we can make great strides. This is an attribute that I would transfer to any workplace where I would work at.
