Markeaton Park Student Name Course Institution Date Introduction The historical sites and parks play an important role in terms of offering recreational facilities to the members of the public. The attraction of the members of the public is however, dependent on the facilities that are available. Poor facilities in the parks discourage the members of the public. This is regardless of facilities and the attraction sites that are available in the park. It is thus important to note that management of the park is an important aspect of attracting the members of the public (Karanth, 2011). However, maintaining a park could be quite challenging due to various factors. The lack of adequate finance hinders the proper management of the parks. On the other hand, the park also requires a proactive management team in order to ensure generation of revenue and good maintenance. The laws and regulations regarding the operations of a park also play an important role in ensuring the success of the park in terms of management and attraction of customers. The generation of the revenue is important in terms of ensuring that the park is well maintained and hence attracting the members of the public. Planning is also an important aspect of the management of the park. Proper planning ensures that the park has adequate facilities which attract the members of the public. It also ensures that the access to the facilities is good and hence satisfying the needs of the customers. Markeaton Park is an example of a park that is undergoing difficulties due top lack of adequate finance and proper planning. However, it has applied for funding although a proposal is required. The paper critically discuses the measures that should be taken by the park in order to utilize the funds properly and attract the members of the public leading to revenue generation. Operational proposals for Mundy play centre In order to ensure that the park continues to attract the members of the public, Mundy play centre requires some renovations as well as establishing of new facilities. This is considering that most of the visitors to the park visit the area. It is thus important to ensure that the infrastructure is expanded so as to accommodate the high number of visitors. The road leading to the area should be renovated so as to ensure easy access to the area. The paths should also be renovated to ensure that the visitors have an easy time moving around the area. It is also evident that most of the visitors in the area have their own cars. It is thus important for the car park area to be expanded so as to provide adequate parking space for the visitors. The car park should also be maintained well so as to ensure that it remains attractive to the visitors. This will ensure that the visitors have confidence in the area when parking their vehicles. Marking the area is also important in terms of ensuring that the visitors can move freely in the park. This can be achieved through the use of direction signs through out the play ground. This will also play an important role in guiding the visitors. This is unlike the present situation where most of the visitors end up being confused due to lack of signs. Adequate signs in the area will also reduce the need for volunteers and employees in the park (Juutinen, 2011). The Mundy play centre is usually frequented by family members. The different members of the family have different requirements in terms of recreation. Apart from the sports facilities, it is important for the management consider a wide range of facilities that fits the family members. The facility should also be equipped with recreational facilities for the children. This will play an important role in retaining the visitors for long. It is important to note that the number of visitors who stay for more than four hours in the park is low. This is because of the lack of adequate facilities that suits all the members of the family. The existing play grounds also require a lot of renovations. This is due to the deteriorating conditions of the play grounds. The current conditions are not good in terms of safety and attraction of the visitors. The golf pitch should be renovated by ensuring that the area is planted with more grass. However, the pitch should be well maintained on a frequent basis. This will play an important role in attracting the visitors to the park. It is also important for the management to consider expanding the facilities so as to accommodate more people. The expansion should however be done step by step depending on the response of the people (Hammitt, 2010). It is also important to note that the conditions of the facilities play an important role in attracting the visitors. This is because most of the visitors in the park do not see the value of their money when visiting the park. The drainage infrastructure of the park should also undergo renovation. This will play an important role in ensuring that the facility is easy to maintain at different seasons. It is also important for the management to ensure that environmental conservation measures are put in place at the facility. This may involve planting of more trees as well as putting in place a mechanism to manage wastes. More garbage collection points should be established in the park so as to deal with garbage collection. This will ensure that the area is clean and hence attractive to the customers. The environmental protection measures are important in terms of conforming to the laws and regulations regarding the conservation of the environment. However, the management should also consider enrolling more volunteers to aid in the process. The quality of the food and drinks provided at the park should also be improved so as to attract more customers. The park should consider offering a diverse range of drinks and food so to satisfy the need of al the visitors. This will ensure that the visitors to the park do not have to carry their own food. It is also important for the managers to consider building small shelters across the facility. This is for the purpose of ensuring that the visitors can relax in more areas across the park. However, frequent maintenance of the shelters should be done so as to ensure that they are in good conditions at all times (Getzner, et al, 2009). Information technology is also becoming quite popular among most of the people in the country. Most of the visitors usually carry their laptops when visiting the facilities. During relaxation, most the visitors always like browsing using their laptops. It is thus important for the managers to consider installing a wireless internet connection so that the visitors can use the facilities to access the internet. This will play an important role in ensuring that the visitors are able to spend more days in the park. It is also important for the managers to ensure that the facility conforms to all the legal requirements. This will ensure that the facility can be opened on a daily basis. Most of the customers in the facility are unable top visit the facility as it does not have a constant opening time or date. The visitors have been inconvenienced in most instances as they sometimes find the facilities closed. This has a negative impact on the revenue collection of the park. It is also important for the managers to enhance the use of electronic systems during payment. This is also important in terms of managing the revenue collected. The managers should also consider aggressive marketing strategies. This should however be done after the renovation process has been completed. Advertising should be the last part and it will play an important role in enabling the members of the public to know of the new strategies that have been put in place (Russo, 2010). It will thus play an important role in selling out the new image of the park. Strategies to reduce the carbon footprints in the park The reduction of the carbon footprint is one of the most important issues facing the world today (Tjan, 2010). This is due to the increase in the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmospheres. It has a negative impact on the climate and hence affecting the human life on earth. The park should thus play a role in ensuring that this global crisis is tackled. Due to the number of visitors in the park, it is evident that a lot of waste materials are usually littered. In some instances, plastic bags as well as containers and other litters are usually found at the park. This is considering that most of the drinks are usually packed in plastic bottles and some food stuff is sometimes wrapped in plastic bags. Disposing off these materials as done by the park is not appropriate. This is because it leads to emission of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. It is thus important for the park to come up with a recycling strategy for the materials. The recycling process should be done to ensure that the materials can be used again for other purposes. It is thus important for the park to establish a recycling plant to deal with the issue of carbon footprints. This process may require the assistance from experts for it to be successful. The management should thus seek the services of consultants in the process. It is also important for the company to hire experts and environmentalists who will be responsible for the process. The people working in the park should also ensure that al the plastic bags and plastic materials are collected for recycling. More volunteers should be engaged for the purpose of supporting this initiative. The management should also ensure that the use of motor vehicles inside the park is minimized. This is because the motor vehicles emit carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. This is a major cause of the problem related to the carbon footprint. This is also considering that a high number of people visit the park. If all the people are allowed to use their vehicles, it will have a negative impact on the environment. It is thus important for the management to encourage people to cycle and walk inside the park. Adequate infrastructure should thus be developed to support cycling. It is also important to note that cycling and walking not only eliminate the carbon emission in the park but it is also good in terms of health. It is also important for the management to create awareness among the visitors on the importance of conserving the environment and reducing the carbon emission. This should be done through posters inside the park. It is also important to note that the awareness of the visitors about the efforts will reduce the littering of plastic bags. This will play an important role in making the work of the management easy. Planting of more tress should also be done within the park. The trees should be planted in strategic areas where it cannot interfere with the sporting activities. The trees play an important role in refreshing the area through the absorption of carbon dioxide and release of oxygen (Vereecken, et al, 2012). The green initiatives that the park should embrace should also be in line with the laws and regulations concerning the protection of the environment. It should also be line with the government strategies of cutting the emission of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. It is thus important for the park to ensure that the use of energy is regulated. The regulation of the energy is for the purpose of reducing the consumption of the energy within the park. It is thus important for the park to ensure that the consumption of energy is low. Initiatives should also be put in place to ensure that the park initiates more efforts in terms of green energy. On the other hand, it is also important for the park to liaise with the communities and other organizations in its efforts of reducing the carbon emission. These organizations could be both private and public. The partnership will contribute to a great extent to the conservation efforts during the stages of implementation. Utilization of electronics that consume low amount of power should also be installed at the park. This should replace the air conditioners that consume a lot of energy and are found in the park. It is this important for the park to invest on electrical appliances that consume low amount of power (Fang, 2011). The systems within the park should also be automated so as to control the energy consumption. It is also important to note that the initiative of reducing carbon will build the public image of the park as carbon emission is a worldwide issue. Research results According to the data collected from the park, it is evident that Mandy play center is among the areas that receive most of the visitors. This is due to the facilities that are available for recreation. On the other hand, the number of people visiting the park with their own personal vehicles is higher as compared to the other means of transports. According to the research, the use of public transport and the bicycles is quite low. This has an impact on the carbon emission and should be well handled by the management. On the other hand, it is also important to note that the frequency of the visit has negative impacts on the revenue collection. Most of the visitors only visit the park once every moth. This is due to the uncertainty in terms of the opening hours and days. Most of the visitors expressed concern about the issue as they did not know whether the park will be open or not. The length of visit also has negative impact on the revenue collection of the park. This is because most of the visitors only visit the park for les than two hours. This is due to the lack of facilities that they are interested in. In some cases, the facilities are not working or are not in god conditions and hence discouraging the visitors. The visitors in some cases do not know the direction to most of the facilities and hence affecting their length of stay. This is because most of the facilities have no signage and hence impacting negatively on the visitors. Some of the visitors also get confused due to the lack of the signage and hence affecting their length of stay. The categories of the visitors are also an issue for the park. This is because most of the visitors are usually families. However, the number is affected by the lack of some recreational facilities that suits all the members of the family. On the other hand, the number of visitors who come on their own to the park is quite low. The number of teams and clubs is also low and this is not a god trend as the comp0any has sports facilities. However, this problem is attributed to the poor conditions of the sports facilities in the park. The ability of the park to attract visitors from a diverse area is also low. This is because most of the visitors are from Derby. This is due to the deteriorating services of the park and the lack of advertisement that has impacted negatively on the attendance of the visitors. The age of the visitors is also one of the factors that affect the attendance of the visitors. According to the research, most of the visitors in the park are between the ages of twenty five and forty four. This is due to the facilities that are found in the park. However it is important to note that most of the families are wiling to come with most of their family members if diverse facilities are created. On the other hand, the issue of technology is still low as most of the visitors are not able to aces the internet connection in most parts of the park. The environmental conservation efforts in the park is evident but not to a great extent. The measures to deal with the carbon emission are also low and hence the need to put in place more measures. Conclusion In conclusion, there are many challenges facing the park and hence affecting the number of visitors visiting the ark. The Mandy play centre requires a lot of renovations in order to continue attracting the visitors. It is evident that the transport infrastructure within the park requires a lot of improvements in order to ensure that the customers are comfortable. It is also evident that the park requires a lot of investment in the environmental conservation efforts. This is for the purpose of ensuring conformity with the international as well as the national laws. The play grounds also require renovation for the purpose of attracting more teams and clubs to visit the facility. On the other hand, it is important to note that the facility requires investing more in the information technology infrastructure. This is for the purpose of meting al the requirements of the customers. According to the statistics, the numbers of visitors is low due to the deteriorating conditions of the park. The methods of collecting liter in the park should also be enhanced so as to ensure that the park is able to achieve the aims of environmental protection. It is also important for the organization to partner with the other organization in terms of ensuring that it attains the goals and objectives of reducing the emission of carbon. This is important for the purpose of protecting the future. Recycling and reuse of the plastic bags and containers also one of the measures that needs to be undertaken by the park. Experts in the environmental field should also be involved so as to assist the park in carrying out the activities. The success of the park therefore depends on the adoption of the recommendations.
