The paper 'How to Use Computers and the Internet' is a great example of a Business Case Study. A community program has been initiated here in Melbourne whereby high students will be offering lessons to senior citizens on how to use computers and the internet. The community initiative has already received donations amounting to $1000 and it now requires only $4000 funding in order to run. The Public Relations Managers in Sydney thinks it a good idea too but cites lack of budgetary allocation for the money for the initiative.

The main reason why I have gone over the top of the PR manager Rodger Hall is that this is the best opportunity of sending a corporate social responsibility message across Melbourne, something Rodger Hall agrees with. It is an opportunity that is not worth wasting. Your approval will, therefore, be of importance as far as the reputation of the company in Melbourne is concerned, considering it is not the first time that the managers are requesting us to fund the project.

Introduction

This report is a funding proposal for $4000 in aid of a computer and internet-training program exclusively for senior citizens in this city. The report outlines the circumstances under which the management teams of high schools in Melbourne are going to use the Powerlink Technologies-funded program for the benefit of our senior citizens.

With this funding, the program will start and old people in the community will benefit. The company, on its part, will benefit through an enhanced reputation that will translate into high sales. The high school management team will be responsible for organizing the whole program. Our company will benefit since it will be the sole provider of computers and various mechanisms of cost-cutting will be put in place in this area that is the company’s specialty. This is why the funding proposal seems like a mutually beneficial opportunity, considering that the company has never run a corporate social responsibility program in Melbourne.

Outline of the community program

Three training centers will be set up using these funds and installed with 50 computers in each center. The managers of the programs, who consist of a team constituted by the managers of city high schools, will be responsible for supervising the day-to-day running of the program. The company will sell computers and accessories at market prices. It will also be responsible for offering services relating to installation, maintenance, and servicing.

The funds will also be used to meet transport, advertising, and other expenditures relating to the initial setting up of the program such as licensing and contingency costs. Once the funds have been provided, advertisements will be placed on two main television stations and the two most popular daily newspapers. These adverts will run for two consecutive weeks.

In terms of timelines, the program will commence in June if funding is secured. Within one year, it is expected that plans the managers of the program will have assessed its viability in order to determine which priority areas need to be focused on. The chief provider of funding will have a stake in the decision-making process in the community program at all levels. This is therefore a unique opportunity for our company to share a stake in the future growth of a noble community program. If the company was to offer funding towards this program, we may suggest that computer and internet training first be introduced in those cities where the company intends to venture into.

Benefits

The company will benefit earn a good reputation which will translate into an increase in sales. This initiative will be a pioneer one since none of our competitors has ever funded such a community program High schools students will be given the opportunity of training the senior citizens, thereby gaining teaching experience.

The program, upon becoming successful, will easily spread to other cities. This will be an opportunity for the company to make more sales and ensure the running of an efficient corporate responsibility program by giving back to local communities.

Once the program commences, it will be a going concern, just like any other business. The funds generated through participation in business activities will be used in sustaining all the training programs that will have been initiated.  This means that this initiative will not keep relying on donations forever.

Budget

The community program will be modeled on a not for profit organization. The main budgetary allocation of this program depends on the $4000 donation. Once the funding is secured, the implementers of the program will be able to handle all the operations. The audit of accounts will be done at the end of every financial year. Adherence to all principles of managing organizations will be the main reference point in matters of budget.

Conclusion

Owing to the highly changing corporate atmosphere in terms of consumer expectations in areas of corporate social responsibility, this opportunity to me seems to have come at the opportune moment and therefore worth tabling at the highest managerial desk for our company for consideration.
