This project will study the conversion of the air traffic control system in the United States to the NextGen system and its implication on general aviation in the United States. Through the use of all available resources, the student will develop a project that will lead to an enhanced understanding of the conversion of the air traffic control system and its possible problems associated with general aviation. This research will be supported by incorporating knowledge gained and practiced in the classroom and online courses while attending Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU).

The information provided will incorporate the regulatory criteria provided by the FAA, National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and other government agencies. The scope of the project will in accordance with a student majoring in Aeronautical Science with a minor in Management. This paper will incorporate the history and background of the planned conversion to the NextGen air traffic control system in the United States.This project will use various sources to study the models, theories and concepts learned throughout the courses completed at ERAU.

The project will address issues in the process and define the problems and strengths of conversion to NextGen in the United States. The project will incorporate critical thinking, which will result in an enhanced understanding of NextGen and how it affects general aviation. Using available data obtained from the FAA and other government agencies the project will achieve the objective of theoretical knowledge to define a problem-solving approach to the professional environment. Information and data for this project will be acquired from ERAU course textbooks and materials.
