The Nest protects The Nest protects In the advent of an ever-increasing need for safety and control over suchunfortunate happenings as fires, which cause untold sufferings, the need for invention is increasingly important in order to avoid such occurrences. The invention of the nest smoke detector (the Nest protects) is a great milestone in the industry, which has received great attention and support all over. It is a home appliance, which works in more or less a similar manner as the thermostat but with main difference notable on the capacity to have it differentiate the magnitude of smoke detected. Upon detection of smoke, the appliance speaks to the owner and thus communicating of the impending danger as fire outbreak or loss of food through burning. With a market price of just $130, the Nest Company has managed to invest one of the greatest and most important appliances for general safety and the consumers are increasingly appreciating such efforts. The appliance is more appealing for increased efficiency as well as the smartness that it brings about in the industry. The difference in working of the smoke detector and the previously used appliances is the capacity of the new invention to work rationally; the gadget has an ability of differentiation the magnitude of smoke and hence behaves accordingly while warning the user. In the event that more smoke is detected, the appliance would pass out a siren while the detection of relatively little smoke makes the appliance to communicate softly through a voice to the user. Moreover, the appliance has a built in system to detect carbon dioxide and hence has an advantage over other gadgets in that it can save lives. It also works with a principle of differentiation where it has the capacity to differentiate smoke from such other substances as the steam. With a well built in system of detection, the appliance has the capacity to detect steam, temperatures, smoke, movement as well as ambient light. It reacts differently in the detection of these factors, which explains its efficiency over other such smoke detectors in use today. Besides, it has the capacity to communicate whenever it runs out of battery power through lighting distinctively (Fenlon, 2013, para 1-3). Besides, the new invention has been well designed to fit the market through its connection with applications of a smart phone. The color and outside appearance of the gadgets is well considerate of the aesthetic value of such an appliance and the company packages the appliances in black and white colors. The marketing strategies adopted by the company therefore acknowledge the need for visual appeal of the commodity as well as efficiency of the appliances. This is shown by the increased improvement of the gadgets with an ultimate aim of influencing people in buying habits to buy the products not only because of its attractiveness but also because of the ease of its use. Ethics in marketing dictates that marketing strategies adopted be ethically correct in the use of emotional, visual and such appeals towards the target market segment. It is also ethical for an advertising company to adopt fair pricing as determined through the prevailing market prices, the costs incurred while manufacturing the commodity as well as the quality of the commodity on sale. The nest protects is such an appliance that utilizes high level of technology to address on a very critical issue to all persons. The high value in price tagged on the appliance therefore would justify the value of the technology as well as the quality in having the gadget designed to serve for a long time. Emotional and stylish appeals are basic features that the company has invested in while designing and improving on the appliance. It is user friendly and has the capacity to be set into different languages to suit the user. The capacity of the detector to signal in event the lights are put off is an excellent feature that increases its competence in the market because through the sign, one is able to know the gadget is working properly. Besides, it has the capacity to detect a person’s movement and light up (Lunden, 2013. Para 1-6). The inventor was strategic in inventing the appliance to be applicable with smart phone technology because the study of consumer behavior shows increased preference for such appliances as the smart phones. It would also be understood as a strategy to venture into the market through linking the technology with such basic appliances as the mobile phones. In understanding the invention of the hardware, it is necessary to understand that the appliance is programmable, can connect to other devises through internet and has the capacity to track and save one’s family habits. The company eyes the great market across the globe as the menace of fires and smoke becomes a wide spread feature. Fadell, the inventor to the appliance actually reasons that the continued use of the previous fire detectors as have been in use is simply applying analogue technology in a digital world. In a comparison, he cites some advantages of using the new invention in that the previous appliances used in detection of smoke would often have their alarms set off by such things as the steam from an open oven or even rising temperatures from a pasta pot. This represented the major concern that triggered the invention of a much reliable appliance, which would serve more effectively and save the owner such unnecessary costs in attending to unnecessary alarms as well as malfunctioning resulting from such prevailing conditions as rise in temperatures. In the innovation, the combination of carbon monoxide as well as smoke easily alarms the appliance, which responds through alerting the user that there is such detection within the living room or even within the kitchen and any other place that the detector is fixed. This gives the appliances higher advantage over the rest of the competing technologies hence the high costs associated with the gadget (Gross, 2013, para 1-3). Besides, the company says that plans in innovations are underway to have android and iOS updated in order to be compatible with such an appliance as the Nest protect. From such applications, the inventors say that the users will be in a position to track any happening around the installations of the detectors, which are interconnected. The basis of the innovations is simply making the interface more easy and streamlined in order to offer the intended services more effectively (Kastrenakes, 2013, para 1). Marketing mix is used to refer to a number of tactics that are often applied by trading companies in order to promote own brands within the market. It has particular attention on the price, place, promotion as well as the actual product concerning the market. These are main features that successful marketing must take into consideration as they influence the competitiveness of the product in the market. Price regards the value that a product carries in the market, which has dependence o such factors as the cost involved in production of the product, the prevailing market values as well as ability of the target market to afford the commodity. The production represents the actual good on offer while promotion revolves around practices adopted to create awareness of the existence of such a product within the market. The understanding and application of appropriate policies towards each of the mix components dictates the performance of the product within the market (The Economic Times, 2013, para 1-3). In the analysis of ‘the Nest protects’ on the market mix, the appliance is seen to have adopted great measures towards marketing success. The market entry strategy which is through use of mobile technology is excellent because not only is it trendy but it is consumer oriented. Advancement in technology is to acknowledge for such a realistic and necessary invention through which, the use of outdated smoke detectors as have been in use would be changed. The strategies formulated in reaching the customers through promotions, distribution and storage as well as through timely innovations are successful features that confirm the focus that the invention has over meeting the needs of customers. It is also worth noting theta the manufacturing company has the added advantage on which to ride on which is the already existing market share by the consumers of smart phones as well as the apple products. Consumer loyalty over the company’s products would therefore be assumed to be in existence. In conclusion, therefore, Fidell and the inventing company have designed and introduced a gadget that has the capacity to revolutionize the market of such appliances as fire equipment and such detectors (“Nest Protect review”, 2013, para 1-7). Adoption of more relevant technology while designing the nest protects in commended on being effective in targeting the intended market segment which is spread all over the globe. Then appliance therefore has increased prospects of revolutionizing the market segment of fire detection. Bibliography Fenlon W., 2013. Nest protect takes a $ 130 shot at the smoke detector.
