Adoption of tablet for trainees’ business case
Introduction
The world of today is a technologically oriented world. It has become a world where technology is utilized in almost all spheres of life. This includes the education sector, where it has provided numerous benefits. Technological advancements have allowed for the adoption of different non-traditional aids to improve the way knowledge is passed in the classroom. The issue though is that Saudi Arabia as a country is yet to fully realize the potential of what these different technologies can do as far as the education industry is concerned. Despite this realization there is still the fact that institutions as a whole are yet to take the initiative and embrace technology for their daily use in the classroom.
Problem analysis
One suggestion is the adoption of tablet computers for trainees. The problem presented here is that even larger organizations that operated within Saudi Arabia are yet to fully adopt this technology. This is majorly due to the fact that most institutions around Saudi Arabia are yet to fully understand the advantages that it offers. This comes with the backdrop that Saudi Arabia has been rated amongst the top country when it comes to the ownership of these devices by individuals. The lack of industrial enthusiasm has made it more difficult for the educational institutions to adopt these same technologies. There is also the idea that these technologies are expensive for institutions. The expense here is due to the large initial capital costs for the implementation of these programs. Finally there exists an issue of directive. The educational institutions especially those under the governments control may not really be able to adopt these technologies. They require approval from their respective heads which may not be forthcoming as there is no direct governmental directive for their adoption.
The use of tablets as a tool for passing on instructions to students is something that few educational institutions around the world have adopted but it is one that shows promise. There are a number of advantages that it provides. The most basic one is that it offers the lecturer and the student with an easy communication gateway. This gateway may be instantaneous thereby improving the way the students and the teachers interact, both in and outside of class. The second advantage is that it makes learning more interactive thereby providing students with the ability to clearly grasp hard to understand concepts.
Feasibility
This program is one that is feasible; however ambitious one may deem it to be. Those in the teaching fraternity are ready to accept the technology provided the right level of training will be provided on how it can be used. This will give them the ability to put it to good use and as intended. Students on the other hand use these devices and technologies outside of the classroom and are therefore well versed with the use of these devices. Some students have also taken the initiative by using them in classrooms. At the current moment Saudi Arabia has the technological knowhow and capabilities to implement the program from start to finish. The only issue that may arise is when there is need to switch or upgrade these systems. In which case there will be need to train a few of those who will be tasked with overseeing the project.
The use of tablets in the classroom setting for trainees will make learning efficient. This efficiency will be translated into better work output, making the adoption of these specific technologies adaptable to any timetables and schedules that are existent at the moment. The question will then become of how the implementation will be done. Looking at the economical feasibility, there are different schools of thoughts that exist. The implementation of the technology will be cost effective by making learning more efficient. The only problem is whether the benefits derived by the tablet implementation program will be able to match the cost of the program. The factor here will be determined by the way in which the program is implemented to begin with. The right form of implementation strategy will be able to reduce the cost significantly, thereby making it economically beneficial. At the current moment there are no legal concerns as to the implementation of the project. There is need though to pass on directives and/or incentives that will make the adoption of tablets to trainees as successful as intended.
Risk analysis
There are risks though that are involved in the adoption of the tablets. One of this is the fact that teachers who are meant to pass on instructions may not be well versed with these technologies. This will make the adoption of these technologies a little slow. In this case training programs will need to be put in place. The second risk is the cost that may be involved in the process may divert funds that are meant for other areas within the education sector itself.
Issues
The most major issue is the integration of the technologies into the current educational system. Steps should be taken to find ways in which the educational curriculum will be adopted to allow for the use of the new technologies. This is through the development of content that can easily be used with these technologies. The second issue is that this particular area of the technological sphere is still in the developmental stage. This is because there are issues such as content sharing of copyrighted materials and how content that is carried on the devices may be locked to avoid misuses. There also exist issues as to who has rights to the content on these devices. Institutions though may enter into agreements with educational content providers that will minimize these issues. It is also idealized that with the adoption of the tablets, content providers will come on board to support the tablets for trainees’ initiative.
Assumptions
There are a few assumptions that have been made in the process of this case. One being that the trainees themselves will be aware of how to use these devices and so would not require the training. Also those who may not be aware will be easily educated on their use by their more versed colleagues. The other assumption is that the government is onboard with the idea of technological use in educational institutions and will be prepared to make the necessary support for the project to be implemented (Cordesman 323).
