Hospitality placement affiliation Hospitality placement Background to your company and your role My company is a fast food restaurant that was created as a food caravan on the streets. The growing demand of our products made the venture realise how much it could really achieve. As an amateur business the venture started with only few staff members and only one working station. At the first stages the business was forced to quote very relatively lower prices than its competitors so that it could gain a greater competitive advantage. This strategy worked since the fast food caravan had a great number of consumer support who became frequent buyers and the participated in some of the fundraising initiatives the business held. If was from this platform that the fast food restaurant became significant in the market. It launched a permanent working station from which it incorporated a breakfast line. The breakfast venture was also received well. After the breakfast initiative had realised its full potential, the venture became a full time fast food restaurant that provided all the three meals in a day. My role in the company is to manage the logistics involved in the company. My role is supported by two other staff members who are equally educated in the field as I am. From this role I have enabled my organisation to have a well structured and organised logistics strategy that is fully operational and reliable. Key issues in your business that are challenges and risks In the hotel industry there are many risks involved. Many risks in the industry revolve around the target market. In hotel industry the main focus is usually on pleasing the demanding market (Worthington & Britton, 2009). With many competitors in the market the venture had to look for one special feature that will standout for the rest. Another challenge in the organisation is the acquiring of well experienced and trained human resources. This is required for the delivery of quality services to consumers. Another issue in the organisation is the fact that there may be a lot of waste in the organisation. For instance, there is a predicted quantity supply of fries me deliver in day. This is dictated by the demand of the consumers. In some days the demand may not reach its optimum point forcing the extra fries to become waste. if an organisation has not implemented proper structures to minimise waste, it would have a negative reflect at the end of the financial year. Key issues and challenges in the industry in which your business functions In the hotel industry competition, lack of top quality manpower, the numerous rules and regulations from administration bodies and suppliers with low standard of goods. The issue with suppliers is the most significant issue. The hotel industry and suppliers have a very healthy relationship that is based on business contracts. Hotel and restaurants need greatly depend on suppliers for most of their activities. Lack of quality suppliers may cost a lot to a hotel or restaurant than just the supply of poor quality goods. The supply of poor quality goods may also affect the business relationship with its clients. According to Worthington & Britton (2009) the issue of supply of products to a restaurant has very sensitivity and stakeholders should approach it with the required care and significance. The culture of your business The culture in my business revolves around the staff employed and the duties they undertake in the business. With a good working force one can easily instil a specific culture that may be advantageous to the business. The relationship between the employees and the top administration team dictates the type of culture that is practised in an organisation. In my organisation, all employees are free to air their views and opinions in regards to the required and appropriate routes. The business greatly promotes the culture of togetherness and team work. Additionally, the culture of obedience and adherence to rules and regulations are also greatly promoted. Where you sit in that culture In this culture I function as an influencer and also as a doer. Every person in the organisation is required to participate in the culture that is practised in the business. Additionally, every person has the duty to influence and promote these specific cultures. In this way there is a sense of responsibility instilled in every person that requires to be put into practice. Your colleagues Every person in the organisation is my colleague. In the business there is an instilled sense of belonging that is evident. Every employee operates as a team. As a logistics manger, I equally need the duties of each and every other employee in the organisation for my work to be a success. In the same way, the duties that I undertake in the organisation are equally as important as any other duty by any other employee in the organisation. In an argument by Worthington & Britton (2009) in creating a team in an organisation, every person becomes a colleague to the other due to the duty connection they deeply share. How do you contribute to the organizational workplace through appropriate responses to projects and, or tasks as a constructive member of a team As logistics officer, there are rules, regulations and duty specifications that are provided to guide my operation in the organisation. However, the personal responsibility each employee has is the duty to perform according to their best ability. As a logistic officer, I use all the qualities I have achieved in life to ensure that the duties I perform are accurate and appropriate. There is the implementation of what I learned in business school, the work experienced I have gained while working in the organisation and most importantly the adherence to the working specification and regulations provided. Just like it is highlighted in the organisation culture, every employee in the business act as a team. Every employee is provided with a versatile working time line that will allow them to help out in other departments they are experienced in. This makes every employee a formidable factor in the organisation. However, regardless of the freedom to operate in other departments, every employee has the greatest duty to respond to their specific duties with utmost urgency and caution. How do you apply what you have learned here in the workplace? In business school one is supplied with the basics of running an organisation and being a formidable member of staff of any business venture. With my job description in my organisation, there is a perfect opportunity to implement my skills from learning. Apart from the academic schools, in business school a scholar also acquires the skills and ability to appreciate leadership and teamwork. These two aspects form the greatest duty I have as a logistic officer. Team work being a very sensitized issue in the organisation, the skills I acquired in business school has been of great significance in my time at the business. The basics to attend to the menial duties in a business venture have also been helpful in my time at the organisation. How do you apply appropriate analytical and research skills in the execution of projects and tasks given to you? As logistics officer there is a lot of research involved especially in the selection of the suppliers to contract. Before any contract is done, one has the duty to do an analytical research on each and every potential supplier. My time at business school enabled me to acquire the required skill to conduct a quality analytical research. With these skills, assigned to me is the responsibility of ensuring the suppliers contracted by the organisation are of the required standard. In other cases, the organisation needs new market strategies that may lure the market towards our company. This move can be greatly executed through the skills I have in analytical and research skills. What personality styles do you work best with and why? While working in my organisation my working specifications have been shaped by the team work requirements at the organisation. The fact that the team work operational strategy is of great significance to my working conditions, it has been hard to acquire a new personality styles. I have adapted to working well with personalities who value the worth and duty of each member of staff or team. In this arrangement, it is difficult to notice the leadership figure which creates a comfortable atmosphere for all employees. What is your personality style? My personality style is a team leader. As team leader it is possible for me to provide guidelines that are of great significance in my organisation. However, the role should not have greater power that may brand me a lesser active team member. How can you improve the effectiveness of working with people in your organisation? The effectiveness of working with people depends greatly on the relationship between them and each other. A healthy relationship in an organisation is whereby each staff member regardless of their duty and responsibility respects the job specification of the other employees. In this way all members of staff will feel highly appreciated and involved in the affairs of the organisation. The effectiveness of working together is also increased by the implementation of the team work strategy in an organisation. The more attached employees are to each other the more the strengthening of the working bond between them. Reference Worthington I., & Britton, C. (2009).The Business Environment 6th Ed. Harlow.
