Recommendations to consideration The project discusses about 911-operation recruitment in Saint John. The interview strategy was used to gain information about the recruitment processes. Five employees were interviewed and these employees explained to the members of our group about the recruitment process that is practiced in the 911 – operation recruitment department of Saint John. The recruitment process of 911 operation gave us valuable insight about how hiring takes place in such organizations and we then accordingly devised recommendations for further improvements in the recruitment department of 911 operations.

After analyzing the research findings thoroughly, our group has developed four possible recommendations to the 911 operations. The recommendations are as follows: 1) The hiring process at the 911 operations requires at least one-year experience in the fields of business or education. According to the results received and the analysis conducted, we believe that this requirement is not relevant, because in the 911 operations there is no need to have a business background for fulfilling the job roles of 911 operations.

Candidates should be selected based on the job description of the job and the particular skills required for the job, this way a large pool of candidates can be recruited according to the requirements. 2) The 911 operations require candidates to be bilingual. They want employees who are able to speak both English and French languages. According to our online survey and the interview that we did with two of the 911 operators, the result indicated that the French language is not that important here in Saint John and most of the people who call 911 in Saint John speak only English.

Also, when we asked the 911 employees, they said they rarely receive a call from a French speaker and most of the French people in this area are also able to speak English. Therefore, we believe that just one bilingual operator is enough per shift. This would also act as a cost effective method for 911 operators. Moreover, as what can be observed from the online results received, it can be observed that 89% of the students here in Saint John do not speak French at all. So this reflects upon the fact that there is no such requirement of a French speaker. 3) The recruitment process for attaining the jobs for the candidate is too long.

The process takes sometimes up to 6 months. Therefore, most of the people who apply for this job look for other jobs as well. We believe that if 911 reduce the length of time taken for the recruitment process, they will have more candidates and can choose the best ones from a bigger job pool. In the six months time duration, many talented and skilled candidates may be hired at other jobs and this is a drawback for 911 operations department as they require skilled employees to fulfill their job roles.

Also, it would result in waste of time for the recruitment department because when they finally selected a candidate for their job role, the candidate was not available. Then to fulfill the position, the recruitment procedures may need to be conducted again and this is wastage of time for the organization. 4) According to the online results achieved for this project, 75% of the students go through online resources when looking for jobs related to their field. 51% of them go through the various networking sites and job portals.

The rest of them stated that they look for jobs in other sources such as media, press and the school’s post. The results depict that the online job hunt is common amongst the candidates hence it is strongly recommended to 911 for advertising their job posts online on the various networking websites.
