Corporate Social Responsibility of Future Shop Future Shop, Canada’s biggest retailer and e-business Company, is very keen to fulfill its corporate social responsibility. In the current year, Future Shop sanctioned a grant of $5,000 to Cégep School under its program named Tech Lab program - Future Shop. So that school students don’t get disheartened working on the obsolete technology, the grant will be used for the sophistication in the current technology used in the school. This grant will be awarded to the lucky winning school by the initiative of the Future Shop Tech Lab in collaboration with ENvironnement JEUnesse’s (ENJEU), an environmental education organization, Cégep Vert certification programs (Future Shop, 14 June 2012).

The leading purpose of Future Shop’s collaboration with ENJEU to lass the schools with tools required for sustainable development and integration of education to sustainable development, and at the same time increasing awareness on the issue of updating technology among various interest groups (Future Shop, 14 June 2012). Another major grant of $500,000 was announced under the Future Generation Program hardly two months back, which is double the amount sanctioned in 2011 to fulfill Future Shop’s corporate social responsibility.

Under this grant, Future Shop has planned to include 20 high schools of Canada for updating their labs with sophisticated technology. Since the inauguration of the Program, 36 Canadian high schools have availed the grants to the tune of $1.3 million. Each selected high school under the Program will avail the grants from $10,000 to $50,000. Funds have been sanctioned in three sub-sections of $10,000; $25,000; and $50,000, depending on their tools requirements to lead in their programs and help in shrinking the digital divide among various high schools in Canada (Future Shop, 24 April 2012).

Future Shop identified the availability of concurrent technology in schools for the benefits of students’ hands-on-experience and growth, as obsolete technology and equipment was a big hurdle in students’ learning with old computers and software to reach the next level of expertise Future Shop, 24 April 2012). In British Columbia, students of Delview Secondary school felt the scarcity of computers, as they have to share their machines in their Media Arts program. Addition of more computers will ensure timely completion of students’ assignments Future Shop, 24 April 2012).

Similarly, students of George M. Dawson Secondary School, situated on the far archipelago of Haida Gwaii, needed headphones, microphones and software for some computers for oral/aural practice and recording of Haida and French language programs, which the $50,000 Future Generation Tech Lab grant will ensure, as students will be able to have unlimited usage because of the latest state-of-the-art technology. They will get expertise in the usage of Haida and French, and will be able to uphold their native language Future Shop, 24 April 2012).

Future Shop in its current spree to fulfill its corporate social responsibility has included schools of British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Newfoundland, and Price Edward Island to purchase essential latest equipment such as tablets, cameras, and to create new tech labs, transforming language labs into digital laboratories, and to serve the needs of students with special needs.
