Individuals, as well as businesses have become deeply dependent upon a wide range of technology tools, such as, mobile phones, computer systems, internet, PDAs, and smart phones. However, technology is not as reliable as humans consider it.

Various factors, such as, load shedding and circuit failure, play their role in making technology dependence unreliable. A large number of people also forget to develop contingency plans to deal with technology failure situations. Fleming (2011) states, “A solid plan to support your technology infrastructure, such as backup and recovery, disaster recovery, and infrastructure planning, can help prevent potential personal, financial and legal losses”. In this paper, I will develop a personal technology contingency plan to deal with situations in which technology or some parts of the systems fail.

The plan will include a proper technology backup system, which will help me resolve technology failure problems. Technology Contingency Plan Being a student, I have to make frequent use of many communication devices, such as, mobile phone, internet, and computer system for the completion of my coursework. I need a proper technology contingency plan to keep my electric equipments working all the time. Therefore, I have planned to install an Uninterrupted Power Source (UPS), which is a device that provides power to electric appliances when the power from main source goes off.

The UPS gets power from the battery connected with it. Today, even such batteries have come in the market that can provide power to electric appliances for as long as one to two hours depending upon the number of appliances connected with the UPS. I will buy a UPS and will connect my computer system, internet device, a tube light, and a fan with it. This is just a single way that I will use to complete my coursework in case of power failure. I have also planned to use some other ways in combination with the first one.

As I use computer to do most of my coursework, I need a proper computer system that can ensure safety of my important files. Therefore, I will create a backup of my important files saved in my computer system in order to secure my data. Very often, we need to format our computers’ hard disks because of intrusion of viruses. In such cases, we usually lose our important data. To escape from such situations, I will save my files in that partition of my hard disk that does not delete the data even when we need to format the hard disk.

I have also planned to buy a laptop to deal with computer system failure. Sometimes, motherboard or other circuits of the Central Processing Unit (CPU) of computers become defective and make whole computer systems out of order. To deal with such situations, I will buy a laptop to complete my coursework that might have left unfinished due to computer system failure. These were some of the technology contingency methods that I have included in my plan to deal with power failure situations. I am sure I will get a great help from all devices that I have planned to buy in order to save my coursework and important files.
