Your full full April 09, A For-Profit and a Not-For-Profit Business In this paper, I will analyze the business structure of a for-profit and a not-for-profit organization. I will discuss the strengths of both businesses, as well as their weaknesses. Moreover, I would also state required changes in those organizations and the ways to bring those changes.
A For-Profit Business
The business which I have selected for analysis is Wadeware Software Company. The company develops web applications, software products, demonstration tools, mobile apps, and other computer applications. The company is committed to deliver reliable software products and applications on time while considering the needs and budget of the customers. The company has hired a well competent team of professionals that develops reliable software products for customers. Let us discuss the company’s business structure, strengths, and weaknesses in some detail.
Business Structure
The business structure of the company is partnership. James Finn and Steven Hobs are two friends who are running this company. Both of them graduated from the same university in 2008.
Strengths of the Company
The company is doing the business very well. Some of the core strengths of the company include strong management team, team of professional web and software developers, high skilled quality assurance department, on time projects’ completion, and 24/7 customer service. The management team of the company is highly skilled and is fully aware of the needs of employees, as well as of customers. The team of developers is also very skilled and highly qualified. The team never misses the deadlines and provides customers with high quality software applications. The company can develop any kind of software application, such as, word processing software, spreadsheet software, database software, desktop publishing software, internet browsers, and pixel based graphics programs. Moreover, the company provides 24/7 customer service, which customers can use to make inquiries at any time.
Weaknesses of the company
Although there are many strong points of Wadeware Software Company, there also exist some weak points associated with the company. Two of the main weaknesses of the company include longer deadlines as compared to competitors and high rates for software development. The company takes a long time to develop software products and applications, whereas its competitors can develop the same products in somewhat less time. However, the company never compromises on quality, which is the main reason for taking more time to complete the projects. Moreover, the rates that the company charges to its customers are also a little high as compared to its competitors.
Required Changes
Some changes which I would like to make in the company are related to online presence of the company and product marketing. I would suggest the management officials to go online in order to attract more customers and earn high amounts of revenues. At present, the company does not take online orders and concentrates only on local customers. Online presence would help the company grow rapidly. Moreover, I would also suggest the company’s officials to improve their marketing strategy in order to attract more customers. The current marketing strategy of the company is not able to earn more business because it lacks the use of proper marketing channels. The company needs to use internet and billboard marketing to make people aware of its products and services.
A Not-For-Profit Business
The organization which I have selected for analysis is Big Shoulders Fund. Cardinan Joseph Bernandin along with a group of people from Chicago founded the organization in 1986 with the purpose to help poor people in educating their children. The organization supports the low-income community living in Chicago by giving funds to the elementary and high schools located in Chicago. Big Shoulders organization gives all of its funds to schools, which use the funds for different matters, such as, faculty development, starting scholarship programs, providing books and uniform to poor students, accommodating schooling expenditures of poor children, and arranging special education programs for special children. Let us discuss the company’s business structure, strengths, and weaknesses in some detail.
Business Structure
The business structure of Big Shoulders Fund is partnership. However, this partnership is not for profit, rather it is for the purpose of welfare. The people involved in this partnership have the aim to help poor community of Chicago. They do not want any monetary profit; rather they want a society where poor parents should be able to send their children to school without worrying about their financial status. Therefore, we can say that Big Shoulders Fund is an organization founded by partners with the aim to help people.
Strengths of the Company
Big Shoulders Fund is serving poor community of Chicago for the last 25 years and it is one of its major strong points. It is serving nearly 26000 children belonging to different races and cultures. The organization does not discriminate between Catholic children and those having other religions. Some statistics show that nearly 35 percent students being served by the organization have religions other than Catholic. The organization is serving 93 elementary and high schools located in Chicago. A large number of children at these schools who are being served by the organization belong to racial minorities of Chicago. These statistics show that the management of the organization is working just to help poor people regardless of their races or cultures. There is a proper check and balance system in the organization. The organization does not spend a single penny on matters other than the matters of social welfare.
Weaknesses of the Company
In my view, the only weak point associated with the organization is that the organization has less number of offices where people can go and contribute financially for social welfare. The organization needs to open its sub-offices at every prime location of Chicago so that people should not feel difficulty in finding the right place to contribute in terms of charities and funds for welfare.
Required Changes
One major change which I would like to make in the organization is related to working scope of the organization. At present, the organization is serving only the people living in Chicago. The organization should make efforts to expand its operations to other cities of the United States. The organization should open its offices in all major cities of the United States to contribute towards meeting the financial needs of poor people living in those cities.
