Peter Browning and Continental White Cap Management lays the fundamentals of any form of business. Scholarly research depicts management as an assembly of people working together towards a desired goal. Any business works in accordance with a range of policies aiming in achievement of defined objectives. Different businesses have different management practices and set goals to achieve. SWOT analysis and Porter’s five forces analysis help many businesses thrive towards their success. SWOT analysis depicts the most common management tool that is extremely useful in decision making and understanding all sorts of business situations.

This paper discusses in depth about the two analyses and their impact on Peter Browning and Continental White Cap. The foundation of White Cap Company took place in 1926 but it was during 1956 that Peter Browning had to take possession of it. Although Continental Can had possession of the company, the White family still carried out the management practices [1]. The company’s producers ranged from preserves, juices, pickles, baby foods, ketchup, and other perishable goods. Peter Browning as the director of the company had some issues, which he had to deal with in order to make the company more successful.

However, this was not an easy task and required commitment. Changing existing norms and practices in an already existing and profitable business becomes not easy. SWOT ANALYSIS SWOT is an abbreviation used to refer refers to the Strengths, the Weaknesses, the Opportunities, and the Threats experienced by a company. Any business in order to excel should analyze its strengths and make advances in them, determine the weaknesses and find solutions to eliminate them discover the opportunities in line with the business and go for them and ultimately discover the threats facing the business and find ways of dealing with them [2].

The major strength evident in the company was its ability to carry out effective management practices with the rapid technological inventions and innovations. This was enhanced by the loyalty of employees in the company. The employees’ devotion and unison in the company ultimately leads to its excellence. The company’s weakness was the high costs that were required in leading the company to its success. Due to its financial crises acquired in preceding mismanagement, Peter Browning found it as challenge to uplift the company, which was declining at a high rate [1].

Continental White Can Company experienced rapid change in technology thus experiencing an opportunity to enhance innovation and invention of new products in the company. The major threat towards the success of the company was the uproar from the employees and failure to accept change. They viewed Peter Browning as dictator who had come to change the culture and management of the business. Porter’s Five Forces Porter’s five forces tool of managing a business entail understanding the maximum potential of the business.

It encompasses competition of businesses with substitute buyers, new entrants, established rivals and the bargaining power of the customers, and the suppliers [2]. Peter Browning had to take preventative measures in retaining and improving the company’s profitability in an environment full of rapid change and competition, he had to put into consideration Porter’s five forces of dealing with competition in the business. Improving upon a successful company leds to creation of a set of challenges to be adhered to that include creating awareness and a sense of urgency to emphasize change despite being profitable [1].

In conclusion, SWOT analysis and Porter’s five forces have optimistic effects in business management. Peter Browning uses these analyses in improvement of the business that was deteriorating and leading it to its prosperity. It is therefore necessary for every business management committee to acknowledge the two analyses and use them for the success of any particular business. Questionnaire for staff 1.
